This is no high end kayak. Just realize what it is and it will serve well. It actually is quite stable and maneuverable by one person. It must be fully inflated.

Comments about Friday Harbor Adventure Tandem Inflatable Kayak:

I have been pleased with this fun kayak..
It is easy to set up and comfortable. I have only used it on flat calm water so far but would be willing to try it in class 2-3 to see how she does..My only issues are that it seems to be pretty thin PVC, tho i have not had a leak, the velcro fore and aft covers easily come off, and it does not track well.. but i dont expect a perfect craft for this price. it sets up and packs up quickly and easily..great.. and i figure REI has tested this boat and would not sell a piece of junk that many inexpensive inflatables are.. i like this kayak so far..

Comments about Friday Harbor Adventure Tandem Inflatable Kayak:

We bought this for recreational use on lakes and rivers. First trip out, it punctured. Glad we weren't far from shore. Specs say 7 chambers, but that includes the 2 chambers in each seat. Boat itself only has left tube, right tube, and floor. Floor of ours punctured on underwater debris within an hour of departure. Seats are comfy, and the boat is cheap and easy to inflate, but it's not safe on the water, as it's extremely vulnerable to rips and tears. A hard shell would fix the problem. We returned ours immediately and are looking at hard-shell options. Great as a pool toy, poor choice for outdoor recreation on lakes or rivers.

Comments about Friday Harbor Adventure Tandem Inflatable Kayak:

I used this kayak down the mid section of the Klamath river; class 1 to 2.5 rapids. I loved how compact this kayak could get. Plus, it totally handled the rapids and I never felt a lack of control. However, this kayak was only half way to being totally cool. First, the splash guards started to come off after the second set of rapids and they were only class 1.5 at best. They were also difficult to reattach. All this could be improved if the Velcro was wider where the guards attached to the outside of the kayak. Second, the valves for the seats and the mid section were difficult to use. Third, the seats didn't stay in place and became a problem after the first set of rapids. This could have been fixed with some simple Velcro straps. Last of all, it should have come with paddles, but that has nothing to do with the kayak itself.

Comments about Friday Harbor Adventure Tandem Inflatable Kayak:

Aloha. This is my third inflatable kayak. It is very similar to the Sevylor Tahiti in appearance, comfort, price and awkwardness. I remember the Tahiti with optional skeg tracking better than this boat with included skeg. The skegs are very different on these two boats. When paddled alone the boat wants to spin around like a top. The paddler's bottom becomes a pivot point. It is the worst of the budget boats I have ever owned. Keep this craft in a sheltered pond or lagoon. In all fairness I should have paddled this boat with another paddler on board before writing this. I think a second person may eliminate the pivot effect. All in all it performed a little worse than expected. these soft bottom inflatable kayaks are never too "sea worthy" due to horrendous tracking. Mahalo.

Comments about Friday Harbor Adventure Tandem Inflatable Kayak:

I have now taken this boat out on two lakes and a river. I have to admit I was really looking for a portable and inexpensive canoe as I have not really tried kayaking. Under those expectations this boat was a little disappointing due to the wet ride, the bottom of the boat will fill with some water dripping off the paddle and give you a wet seat. However once I learned to wear a swimsuit and accept the fact that this is a warm weather hobby, the boat is actually quite good for the inexpensive price and compact travel size. Deflated the entire boat will fit into a medium size duffle bag (paddles extra). The boat is made of good quality vinyl and has survived a few rocky shores. The bottom mounted skeg provide great tracking which is a big advantage over competing boats at this price point and category. It did not take much effort to paddle forward in calm water and I could paddle upstream against a moderately strong river current. This even with my eight year old daughter in the front of the boat not paddling. The boat was also responsive about staying on track even with by daughter leaning over the side to stick her hands or feet in the water. Ultimately this boat is a great crossover between a traditional raft and kayak, control along with bouncy fun. We even pulled the seats out and use main boat as a floaty raft and swim platform on the lake. It was easy to get in and out of at the shore and in the middle of the lake. I also really like the look of the boat. The fabric decks and tie downs make the boat look professional and I was not the least bit embarrassed taking it out along with other much more expensive watercraft. The only concern I have is that the product description lists seven air chambers. This is true if you count the four chambers in the seats. I thought the boat itself had seven chambers for safety. No just three. Overall a versatile and compact boat to go exploring in for an hour or two, after that it might become uncomfortable. Good to toss in the car or take camping if there is a shoreline or river to explore near where you are going.
