Comments about SIGMA SPORT BC1609 / STS Cadence Bike Computer - Wireless:

Let me start with the couple of things that I like. I like the handlebar amount; it's very solid and the unit is easy to slip on and off. Second, the display is easy to read; the numbers are large and the format is crisp. Here's what I don't like. First, I wanted more data on the screen. It only displays current speed and trip distance. I can push buttons to see time, temperature, etc., but I'd like some of that data on the screen even if each number is a bit smaller. Second, and this is the deal-breaker, it doesn't always pick up when I am moving. That's because of a very poorly designed sensor on the wheel. It's simply not very stable and I frequently have to make small adjustments to ensure that it's capturing my movement. My old sensor screwed onto the spoke and it never failed to pick up my movement (I replaced it because the batteries in the computer kept failing, which indicated some "electrical" problem). I estimate that 50% of the time with this unit I have to adjust the sensor to ensure it picks up motion. It does not securely attach to the spoke. I will probably return this unit because of this problem.

Comments about SIGMA SPORT BC1609 / STS Cadence Bike Computer - Wireless:

I have a BC 1009 wired model on my mtb but thought I'd try a wireless cadence model on my road bike. I like it a lot. It's large letters/numbers are easier to see than my old Cateye. Now, it is off a bit on mileage when set to their reco'd value for 700c wheels but that could be remedied by playing around with a different value. Compared to my Strava which is GPS-based, it registers about 1/3 mile too much. Install was easy. I didn't like that the cadence battery was installed as it gave out after 3 months. They should ship it loose like the main battery. It picks up signal very quickly so I don't know why others said it lost data due to lag. Overall, very pleased.

Comments about SIGMA SPORT BC1609 / STS Cadence Bike Computer - Wireless:

I have this model on my road bike and the same one (minus cadence sensor) on my mountain bike. I chose this to replace a basic Cateye because I liked the readout and the various other stats it provides. It gives a good variety of information and the readout is large and easy to see. Scrolling is simple enough, although not quite as simple as the one giant clicker on the Cateye. Easy setup, lots of options, can be switched between bikes if you want. Speed and distance match up with the GPS on my phone, so if they're not accurate they're at least only as inaccurate as my other tools!

What I don't like about the computer is that it seems to often take a little while to register movement when I first get going. I've noticed it on my road bike, taking about 30-35 seconds to start up (minor annyoance, but still...). Yesterday on my mountain bike it took over a mile before it began to register...Lame! Not really sure what's up with that, since it's quite easy to tell if the sensor is engaged and it still sometimes stalls. In addition, I wish it was easier to install it to the stem; it's meant to go on the handlebar, but if you want to put it on your stem be advised that you'll need one of those tiny screwdrivers that are used for eyeglass repair.

That aside, however, both this model and the cadence-less one are a good value for the price and I prefer them to the other types I've tried.

Comments about SIGMA SPORT BC1609 / STS Cadence Bike Computer - Wireless:

For someone who has never used a cyclocompter before, the Sigma is fine. Lg display, Temp, Low Btry, & all the basics. Generally simple setup.

However if you've used other computers before and know the difference, the Sigma takes/needs way too much fiddling while riding. Also the wireless range between sensor & computer is extremely tight. Also remember you have 3 batteries to track (1 comp & 2 sensors).

Comments about SIGMA SPORT BC1609 / STS Cadence Bike Computer - Wireless:

I have two of these computers - one on my single bike and one on my tandem - and have used them for two seasons. I have found the Sigma computers to be a very good value. I particularly like the 1609 because (a) it is wireless, (b) it has cadence, and (c) the display is big enough that my 50-something eyes can easily read it while riding. Yeah, there is a trade-off with large numbers on the display: unless the manufacturer makes the unit huge you only get to see a limited amount of information at one time. Personally, I would rather have speed and cadence that I can read versus a ton of information that I cannot. If you have young eyes that can read small print and want tons of information available to you at a single glance, this is probably not the unit for you.

In response to some complaints in other reviews:
Yes, the instructions are brief, but wholly adequate given that installation is incredibly simple.
There ARE holes for cable ties, exactly where they need to be. Think like a cable tie and you will easily find them.
Yes, the display unit takes a few seconds to match up with the sensor, but it is no big deal and I would assume similar to what you will get with any wireless unit.
If the computer stops reading consistently, you might check the distance between the magnet and sensor... I have had no problems with reliability.

The one improvement I would like to see is to make the mount slightly more secure. I had another Sigma with the same mount. Near the end of a century, while a bit delirious, I somehow managed to hit the computer with my hand and knocked it out of the mount. I consider this a freak accident, though, as in several years of riding with Sigma computers this has happened to me exactly once.

My girlfriend needs a computer for her bike and I will almost certainly buy yet another one of these for her...

On the way home a massive thunderstorm beat down rain on the computer/bike mounted on the back of the car. No leaks, no hiccups and accurate data checked with a GPS. Need i say more? I bought two.

Comments about SIGMA SPORT BC1609 / STS Cadence Bike Computer - Wireless:

Wanted wireless, cadence and a large clear display to train for a century ride on my road bike. This bike computer succeeds well in all three areas. I was impressed with the mounting system. Given the curvey relationship between the crank arm and frame on my bike, there ended up being only one small area on the chain stay where the cadence sensor could be mounted. This mounting configuration resulted in the maximum suggested gap of 12mm, with the sensor at a slight angle to the magnet on the crank arm. Bingo . . not a lick of trouble from the wireless displaying either cadence or speed. The O rings make installation fast and easy; one tie is required for the magnet on the crank arm. I checked the speed and distance against a GPS and the deviation between the two was nominal.

My only two nicks on this unit are the lack of a clear instruction manual and I thought it was a bit pricey considering a small uptick in price brings the Sigma unit into play with a heart monitor (at the cost of smaller display characters due to running 3 lines on the display rather than just 2.)
