Comments about Sawyer Jungle Juice 100 Insect Repellent - 98 Percent DEET - 2.5 fl. oz.:
Out on a multi-day backpacking and canoe trip through the Everglades, this product was a sanity saver. Here's how well it works: When applying, I apparently missed my right elbow. I ended up with eleven mozzie/noseeum bites in that sole little spot over the next 24hrs. Zero bites elsewhere on my forearms, where the product did its magic.
The two downsides of it are that DEET eats plastic, so if you're handling a GPS or camera or such, expect the print on the buttons to rub off. Also, there is a cornell.edu study that positively linked "impaired cognitive function" of some Everglades National Park Rangers to DEET :) so you might want to avoid prolonged use of the product.

I bought this based on reviews even though the warning labels made me nervous. Unfortunatly on my skin this poison is actually a bug dinner bell. I hadnt got bit UNTIL I put this on the 2nd day for the kayak tour. I was devoured. Lucky the guide had some random spray that saved me until I got back to camp. No bueno. I would try to get refund if I hadnt left it behind in anger.

Comments about Sawyer Jungle Juice 100 Insect Repellent - 98 Percent DEET - 2.5 fl. oz.:
My husband and I traveled last winter to Thailand and Cambodia with carry-on luggage. Airline restrictions on carry-on liquids meant that carrying a several-month supply of insect repellant was impossible – need that allowance for contact lens solutions, medication, etc.
I took along an empty squeeze bottle, and bought plain, unscented coconut oil in the market for a couple of dollars. I added a little Jungle Juice, then coconut oil for about a 15% concentration, leaving room to adjust the concentration. My repurposed squeeze bottle originally held Boston contact lens solution, relabelled of course. As noted by others, some plastics will degrade in contact with DEET, so choose your squeeze bottle carefully. The screw-on caps on the Jungle Juice stayed put – much better for our needs than a spray pump.
In Cambodia, there was an outbreak of Dengue Fever, plus the usual malaria risk, and I used this solution day and night. The mosquitoes stayed away, which is saying a lot because I usually get more than my share of bites. Plus the coconut oil left my skin feeling great, and there was no annoying added fragrance. The small container fit in my handbag and I reapplied as needed, every 4-5 hours. Just be aware that coconut oil solidifies at cooler temperatures.
Also sprayed some of our clothing with Sawyer's permethrin – very effective for a few weeks. Wish that the concentrated soaking solution was still available, which would be less bulky for airline carry-on.

It's extremely potent. Just a tip for those of you who want to preserve your SYNTHETIC materials. Apply it using cotton balls and try to keep it off your palms/fingers. They're light as air, pack down to nothing, and have myriad other uses. Don't forget a foil-lined baggy for the dirty ones (I definitely don't burn or bury DEET-soaked cotton).

I am not saying that I have tried everything out there, but what I do know is that a 100% deet product keeps the mosequitos away longer and more effectively. I tried some of the others and they did not work as well. As always exercise caution when using a product this strong. Keep it off your clothes and out of your face! This kept the heaviest of mosequitos away from me!

I've been using this product, and the REI-branded "Jungle Juice" for over 30 years. Nothing beats DEET for effectiveness and in the situations where you absolutely must use the strongest repellent, this is the one.
In lesser situations, lower concentrations of DEET, such as that in the time-released Ultrathon, are excellent, too.
With DEET, do your very best to keep it off your backpack, your plastic watch band, the plastic and rubber on your boots, etc... because it degrades them.

Works well, used this for 2 weeks in Thailand and just got a few mosquito bites.Only warning: After about a week of use, myself and 2 other people who were religiously applying the DEET began to have very strange dreams. Apparently this isn't unusual. Within a day of not using the repellent we were back to normal.

I was in the Jungles of southern Mexico, backpacking, camping, and hiking. This product works great! Not on bite! Only apply on exposed skin. It is VERY strong, so nothing girly about it! worth it to me!
While hiking, my water-bottle was rubbing against my skin and the Jungle Juice removed all of the label on the bottle, lol, stuff is strong!

I love this product. Used it all summer long on various backpacking and camping trips, hiking, etc. We were being eaten the first nite on trip #1 (why didn't i use this right away? i can't answer that...) and the second night with this stuff on we could literally see the bugs bounce off the invisible shield created. Only gripe, this will eat at plastic so be careful not to touch any after application.

Moved from California to Arkansas in May 2010 ... fighting off the critters (ticks, chiggers, etc.) with all the other brands.... finally found my Jungle Juice lotion while unpacking... this stuff is amazing and works better than all the other stuff I've tried... Non-greasy, rubs in easily... put it on after every shower faithfully... I'm a happy camper now... will be ordering a supply!
