When I first purchased this belt I used the middle hole with a perfect fit. After a couple weeks of use the leather stretched out and I ended up having to use an awl to punch another hole in the leather so that it fit. It does it's job of keeping your trousers up and holds my knife right on my hip.

Apparently there are some manufacturing or labeling issues with this belt. I ordered my pants waist size according to the description of the product and due to the "most helpful review." Ha! It was way too small. The belt just barely goes around my waist tip to tip.
As for the belt itself, it seems fairly light, so durability may be an issue. I like that it's pretty plain and unbotrusive. I'll probably buy it again if they have it at the store for me to try on, but they didn't last I checked. That's why this one was ordered from the website.

Ordered a brown belt one size up, fit ok for while, stretched a bit, now my pants are falling down and there are no more holes. I ordered a black one, the size I normally wear and it fit on the first hole. Now I'm wearing it on the third hole, so it stretched. I guess I'll need to find a leather hole puncher for the bigger one. Great belt, real solid leather, not like the phony leather in department stores. Don't listen to the buy a size up comments, YMMV.

The belt looks great and is of high quality construction. I was uncertain about what size to order, given others' comments. I rolled the dice and picked a size above mine, and it is perfect. My waist is 35-36in, and I got the 38 inch belt. The length is perfect. Great product, highly recommended.

I am a 32, have been for a while. Everything REI and most other brands fit spot on with a 32.
This belt fits exactly as described by REI, it fits my 32 waist snugly at the middle hole.
Ok, so the 5 holes are close to the end of the belt. And that leave me with only barely a few inches of slack to slip under the next loop. And when I am wearing a shirt or two and I tuck them in the belt becomes too tight and i have to take it down a notch, so now it is almost maxed out.
So if you plan on wearing this belt while tucking in a shirt, you should get one size up and it will fit sooo much better. I had to send my 32 back and the 34 is perfect.
If you are a size 30, then go for the 32.

My pants have a 32" waist, so I ordered the 34" belt, as per other reviewers' suggestions. However, I should have ordered the 36" belt--I only have 2 belt holes to spare.
The actual quality of the belt is good, and it looks good, the sizing info is just different from what you would think.
