Comments about Petzl Spirit Straight Gate Carabiner:

These were the original key lock style biners and for several years this style was only available from Petzl. It is still the best biner for single pitch sport climbs. Yes the are a little heavier than the newer biners such as the camp photon or nano - but when you see your 200+ friend hang dogging on the 3rd bolt you don't have to worry about retiring these.

I have some Spirits from 1998 that have been in constant use in my rack - these biners and a few camalots that I had black diamond resling are the only original pieces of climbing gear I still have in my rack. I have phased them out of my trad gear set-up; but for sport climbs they are still the best!
