I stumbled on a "display" pair of these at a REI used sale for so cheap it's almost embarrassing. I wasn't looking for a brand, just a good fit, something water proof and that could hold up to the savage conditions I put my boots through. I hiked a 3 mile trial immediately after buying this shoes and had no problems. The shoes didn't really have a break in period. Just from day one, they were good. For the next 3 moths, I trained for an extended trip in the Grand Canyon in these, and I really pushed em. I stomped through miles of creeks, snow, rocks, jagged rocks, teeny pebble/ball barring types of trails and just about everything in between. I loved that the laces never crept, my food was protected and I felt like I had really secure footing.
A month before our big trip, my husband decides his broken in, cheaper brand of boots weren't up to the job. He's been through the Canyon before, and came out with shoes in threads. He wanted something that would hold up for more than this trip. Loving my Oboos, I suggested to him to try em. We were both nervous about him buying new boots before a long backpacking trip- knowing all to well the agony of blisters. And because he has a desk job, he really only had a few weekends to break in new boots. Of all the boots available at REI, he said the Oboos were the best fitting, and didn't even require super feet. So he got em. I think he did two major hikes, and wore the shoes around the house for a few hours here and there before we were headed to Arizona, bringing his cheap pair just incase he had second thoughts. He went over the rim in the Oboos, without even a pair of camp shoes. After 10 days, almost 60 miles on rocks, sand stone, creek beds, water and sweaty desert conditions, the shoes and my husband were still standing, without any blisters.
I got a few blisters, but I think I settled for a half size too small because of the price. Both pairs of shoes have some minor scratches from the desert, but still have a lot of use left in them.

I bought these boots and started wearing them the next day. They were comfortable right away and no appreciable "break-in" was necessary. I have worn them in a variety of situations varying from daywalking in the mountains (snow, ice, rocky trails) to sightseeing walks in cities. They are very comfortable, providing great support while being fairly light. My feet never felt tired after wearing them. The boot is stiff enough to provide good support while flexible enough to make walking comfortable.
I did not get the opportunity to test their waterproof performance other than in snow, but they did seem to breathe effectively as my feet never became wet from perspiration.
Even after wearing them almost every day for six weeks, albeit not in the toughest conditions, they have not shown appreciable wear.

I picked this pair because there are so many other good reviews. I was also happy to learn that the company makes efforts to be socially responsible. The shoes did not disappoint. They fit perfectly right way. I took them out into the sugar bush during spring snow melt, and with the addition of a pair of gaiters, my feet stayed dry after a day of tromping around in snow and slop. I have a good feeling they will last a long long time.

I've been backpacking for many years and have gone through lots of different boots but I've never been as excited about any pair until I got these Oboz.
Form the second I put them on at the store I knew these were the one. I still went through and tried around 8 more pairs but nothing compared.
Initially the soles feel unstable and weird to walk on but once you get used to that (takes about 5 min) they are great.

I love these boots so much. I bought some of the Oboz Beartooth's first, they weren't very comfortable. Then I got some of these, and they we're extremely comfortable. They also are waterproof. My whole foot slipped into a creek up near Opal Lake in Colorado and to my surprise, my foot never got wet. I couldn't be more pleased with the comfort, durability, and waterproof of these boots.
