Comments about La Sportiva Raptor Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
Switched to this shoe on recommendation from friend. I had been using an Asics trail running shoe and was not happy with them in rocky, rooted and technical trails. The Asics still get used on smooth dirt, but when I run/hike in the mountains on technical trails this is the shoe for me.
They do seem to wear a little quickly, but they provide great support, significantly reduce foot and ankle fatigue and have great traction even when wet. The tongues do tend to move off to the outside but I find no discomfort in this. So, even though they wear slightly faster, they are worth the investment. Especially if you are running/hiking long miles on technical terrain regardless if it is maintained trails, cross country or scrambling up peaks.
Recently wore them for 16 straight hours on a 40+ mile day-hike. My shoes and socks became soaking wet from plant moisture within half hour of start. I was able to wear shoes all day, wading through many creeks and streams and the Raptors were perfect choice of footwear. Did not remove them until I was back at base camp.

Comments about La Sportiva Raptor Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I love everything about this shoe EXCEPT the tongue won't stay centered. Seems like a small thing but it detracts from the comfort. If i really crank down the laces it helps, but after a few miles they're sliding off to the side again.
But they're very comfortable, good grip, great fit. I run 3-5 miles in them 3 times a week. Work fine for street running, but i try to stick to the trails or upaved shoulders as they're not super cushioned.
I had to get the 47.5 (their largest size) and i'm a US size 12 in street shooes.
Service and delivery comments:
Great REI service. Was hard to find my size since they run pretty small, REI was no hassle returns and service with a smile!

Comments about La Sportiva Raptor Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I was looking for a shoe that could support my frame. I went through the minimalist shoe phase and learned quickly that my 230lbs needs a little more support. I have hiked all season in these. I snowshoe with them and go to the gym in them. They are also my approach shoes for climbing. I have wide feet and most shoes are too narrow in the toe box. These fit great.

I have owned two pairs of Raptors and have been significantly impressed by the shoe both times. The traction has been amazing and held on the steepest of terrain, and all surfaces barring moisture. For a full review feel free to watch a video review on vimeo at http://vimeo.com/29834734

I gave these one star only because I absolutely LOVE the other LaSportiva trail running shoes. To me these appeared to be a gnarlier version of Wildcat, a shoe I have put many miles on. But (at least the pair I have) the tongues in these shoes keeps slipping WAY down to the outside, to the point that they're not even in front of my foot (see picture). And even if i PULL the tongue way to the other side, then cinch them down tight, in 5 minutes they slip back to the other side. Even when I am not in them, they appear to do this. Hard to believe a company with such a history of design and quality products could make something so defective. I can only hope I got among the first Raptors made and they have since fixed this problem.

Comments about La Sportiva Raptor Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I took these bad boys out on a midnight run of Half Dome and not only were they comfortable but they gripped the rock like a climbing shoe. Which came in handy since the cables were not up yet, and we had to prusik ourselves up them. The fact that it was super light weight, and had incredible traction allowed me to book it through the Mist Trail, the dreaded steps, the sandy flat lands of Little Yosemite Valley up the shoulders to the sub dome and the cables, all in time to watch the sun rise from the top! Even though we got soaked to the bone on the Mist Trail the shoes dried quickly, and didn't loose any traction through wet rock and mud. I'm not an extremely avid hiker, but I am an avid climber and I definitely felt that the rubber on these Raptors are excellent. The Raptors worked wonders on the decent as well! The trails were starting to get packed with tourists so we decided to just run the rest down (from the shoulder to the mist trail). As trail runners they were amazing, stable, comfortable, with incredible stopping power! The impact brake system these shoes have really do work. It figures since the treads remind me of a mountain bike! By the end of the hike I had no blisters, and I had just gotten these shoes two days prior!
My only recommendations would be to wear moisture wicking socks if you plan on being in wet terrain as it will go through the mesh. My feet were a little waterlogged. Also, if you have poor arches, use insoles. I had no problem, but for those who need that extra support, you might need them in these shoes. Lastly, they do wear out much faster than my regular hiking boots. But I've noticed that, that's just the price you pay for having good rubber and a trail runner that weighs next to nothing. They took a beating especially coming down the cables. Since they were down, all my weight were on my toes, and that's were I saw the most wear. But overall not to shabby, just expected.
La Sportiva has classified them as a men's shoe, but I am a woman, and they worked great for me. So ladies, don't hesitate to test these out either. You might just be pleasantly surprised.

I have only had these for a few runs so far but they are great shoes. I had a pair of Solomons last. These have a bit less arch support and may not be good for severe over-pronators, however they work really well for me. The biggest advantages are are the light weight and great traction. I am happier with the conventional laces on these as opposed to the solomon system. The Solomon lacing system started to give after about 100 miles and eventually completely fell apart. I have heard that the la sportivas can sometimes wear quickly but decided to give these a shot. We will see how they hold up.

I have worn Montrails for years and have only put about 25 trail miles on these so far and really happy with the way they feel. Very light shoe and great for trail running.
