Comments about Ruffwear Ruff Wear DoubleBack Dog Harness:

My border collie hated being left behind at home or in camp when I would head off for some climbing. Now he is able to be safely tethered or lifted when the terrain gets vertical. He is learning that the harness means it's time for adventure and that he will get to explore some new piece of the mountains.

Comments about Ruffwear Ruff Wear DoubleBack Dog Harness:

We bought this for our dog after she lost her leg due to cancer. This harness made it possible to lift our 70 pound dog up and down a flight of stairs. The harness is sturdy enough that we were able to dead lift her as needed. We were also able to use the harness to help her adjust to her three legged condition. After a few weeks, she was largely able to walk without an assist, but the harness helped us give her a rest when she tired herself out.

Comments about Ruffwear Ruff Wear DoubleBack Dog Harness:

I've had the Doubleback for a few days now. The harness is well made and fits true to the sizing chart. My dog has a 33" girth (22" neck) and the medium fits well on him. However, the back leg straps are not long enough so that I can safely secure the loops around his hind legs (he is 28" from neck to base of tail). Since I didn't buy this for a climbing harness, it's not a big deal. I may buy buckles and webbing to extend the leg straps if I ever intend to use them. The harness was pretty easy to put on. There's a video on youtube that shows the process. Not as easy as a plastic snap-in buckle but not tough either. To test the strength of the harness, I used a rachet strap to hoist him in the air and he didn't seemed bothered by it at all - just kinda looking around and calm.
I mainly purchased this harness to use as a car restraint and walking harness. I chose this over the Web Master harness and other car harnesses because of the quality, strength rating, chest padding, and metal buckles. I didn't like that most car restraints are just straps - I wanted more coverage and padding. I feel with the Doubleback's strength, chest padding, and weight distribution, my dog would be better able to survive the force of a collision with minimal or no injury. I use a heavy duty webbing restraint that clips to the harness and to the child seat latch bar. Hopefully, though, I never have to put it to the test! Overall, I'm satisfied with the quality and design. It was worth the extra money for the peace of mind. Only the leg loops hold it back from a perfect rating.

Comments about Ruffwear Ruff Wear DoubleBack Dog Harness:

Fantastic harness, easy to put on. Fit well on our Border Terrier. When repelling, it kept him level and was sturdy. He wasn't worried so it must have felt safe and secure to him. It was so easy to haul him up rock faces and repel him down too. It also was useful to have secure spots to grab him if needed on the trail.

While this is intended to use for hiking and rescue we are using this to assist a dog that has ambulatory issues. It helps get him into the car and go for walks kinda of like carrying a suitcase only it's your dog.
