I admit it....I don't have a dog. I use this for me! I have taken my Sea To Summit folding bucket on backpacking trips before, and found it to be overkill for what I wanted, which was a bowl to use for washing up. At less than 2 oz., I can justify bringing this with me to use not only for cleaning up after supper, but also to use for sponge baths. Taking a quick sponge bath every night keeps me clean and much happier, and I don't have to try to cram this back into a storage sack. I just put in in the mesh pocket of my pack, and am good to go. I recommend the larger size, (1.9 oz.) as a simple, leakproof washing bowl.

The first time I used this bowl, water sat in it overnight. In the morning when I went to dump it out and put in fresh water, I noticed that the floor was all wet. It was as if the water had seeped out. The sides didn't feel soaked or drip when I touched them, though. Did an overnight test on my kitchen counter and the same thing happened. So maybe they don't intend for water to stay in the product. If you're going to dump the water out every tume, this may be the product for you because it does pack well and clean easiy.

I have tried so many bowls for my dogs while hiking, and NONE of them compare to this bowl! I always had the problem of most of the water spilling over the edges of the bowl while the dogs are lapping it. With this bowl, that doesn't happen! I'm now having to carry less water because there is no waste with this bowl! I love it!

Although both are nice, this dog bowl is much lighter and packs down much smaller than the REI branded bowl. My dog loves it! I actually just lost it and am coming back to buy another one.

The bowl is better than the others I purchased in the past due to the fact it has a rubberized texture and the water does not soak into the material like the others I have used.

Shake it out and throw back in your pack or cargo pocket without soaking everything else. Be prepare to pay a bit more than you would like though. Or you can just go buy a cheap tupperwear bowl and scrap the lid if you have room in your pack.
