        50-mile, 5-day back-country hike
Held a tent, mummy bag, stove, food, first-aid kit, water, and clothes.
Hydration bladder fits in zippered pouch and tube strings over straps for access while hiking.
Could use a small, easy-to-access, external, zippered pouch.
Plenty of places to attach additional gear to outside.

Comments about The North Face Terra 65 Pack:

This bag was very comfortable. When I borrowed a friends bag on a previous trip, my shoulders were extremely sore after our excursion. This bag adjusted well to my frame and I didn't feel a thing in my soldiers after our recent trip (6 miles in, 6 miles out.)

Comments about The North Face Terra 65 Pack:

I've been shopping for a good backpack for a while, not too heavy not too small and I wasn't having much luck until I found this one. I was so impressed my first time out with it. For the first time ever I wasn't sore and tired after my hike because the pack fit me so well. I am mainly a day trip hiker but I end up carrying all my families stuff (Wife and 2 young children) when we do go hiking so the girls ages 5 and 7 don't complain the whole trip. But I also needed a pack for my winter snowshoe hikes that was big enough to carry 2 days of clothes, water and food. This pack is perfect for me and I'm going to buy the smaller women's edition of the pack for my wife too.

Comments about The North Face Terra 65 Pack:

I just took this backpacking through Yosemite and I gotta say, this pack was nothing but great. Being a recent college graduate, I needed something that wasn't too expensive but still performed well--and that is exactly what I got. Now, I'm fairly new to backpacking, but I really don't know why anyone would payover $200 if they could get this pack for [$].Bottom line: definitely worth at least trying on. I recommend this product.

Comments about The North Face Terra 65 Pack:

First off, this pack looks nice and is really well built. No undone seams, no torn fabric or any of that. I have had this pack for nearly 6 months and it is great. The thing that I love most about this pack is that it is REALLY comfortable. Especially going from an old, hand me down, external frame pack. I just recently did a 9-miler and it was just great.
But I do have 3 problems with the pack. First, their is barely any storage compartments. Their is the top, kangaroo pocket, and the middle/main compartment. which makes it really annoying have to dig through everything in your pack when you need something. Second, the sleeping bag compartment is really small. Even with an REI compression bag it still doesn't fit in the compartment. This is an easy fix by just opening the panel that separates the main compartment and the sleeping bag. Third, it doesn't come with a rain cover. Now if you don't live in the northwest it probably doesn't matter, but only two months out of the year can you go on a nice sunny campout without getting rained on. I just recently went to the beach on the very Northwest tip of Washington and the forecast was nice and sunny. Although when we got their we were surprised to have rain for two days straight and everything in my pack got soaked, even though the pack is water resistant.
These problems are minor and don't really effect the pack though, so all in all, it is still a very nice, comfortable, and functional pack.

                Service and delivery comments:

The service was GREAT! The staff their was more than happy to help find the right pack and it was very quick and easy.

Comments about The North Face Terra 65 Pack:

I mostly use the pack to hike in to base camp for alpine rock climbing trips. It was cheap and was a good (big) size for weekend trips with lots of gear (rope, rack, harness, shoes, etc). The fabric and suspension also seem burlier than the lighter-weight packs on the market--my old Gregory Z-Pack wasn't comfortable with more than 30-35 lbs in it, and wore out after a medium amount of hard use.

The lack of a floating (adjustable front and back) lid worried me. It was an obvious cost-cutting decision, and I had relied on that feature quite a bit with previous packs. But... it was so cheap, and seemed like it might be big enough that I wouldn't need the feature. On my first trip it became clear that a floating lid is essential. With too much gear in the body of the pack, the lid pivots and takes up the space where the back of your head should be. It makes the lid almost unusable (the more stuff in it, the more it intrudes). After the first trip, I got some straps, some nylon thread, and a fat needle, and made the lid a crude floating design.

Now I LOVE it. It handles heavy loads noticeably well--it's really comfortable even when it's loaded down. But it took some sewing to get there.

A small buckle just broke, after half a dozen trips--maybe just a fluke, dunno, time will tell.

An awesome pack with a serious, serious flaw. If you are only doing weekend backpacking without a lot of gear, you might be better off with something smaller and lighter. If you're going to load the pack down with bulky stuff (e.g., 0-degree synthetic sleeping bag), the lid is going to be an issue--you'll end up lashing stuff to the outside, and the pack won't ride as comfortably because the weight will sit farther out from your center of gravity--especially if you're a guy.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely, but with a giant asterisk.

Comments about The North Face Terra 65 Pack:

Used this on a backcountry 3day, 2 night trip with my 11yr old son. Loaded it a bit too heavy for first use...50lbs. The shoulder straps had too little padding for this type of load. If you're planning on using for 30-40lb loads, you should be fine, anything heavier and you need to layer up around the shoulders as you will feel it. Other than that, excellent pack. Held everything from extra change of clothes, stove & fuel (MSR Pocket Rocket), filtration kit (MSR Mini) and dehydrated foods. Also has water bladder pocket and drink hose cutout with strap downs on shoulder straps, held 100oz. bladder perfectly. Hip belts were outstanding! While descending, loosened the shoulder straps and let weight drop to hips and didn't get fatigued. Love North Face products. Front zipper pocket nice, especially with expandable material. Especially liked side access zip outs to get stuff in middle of pack for 1st night so I didn't have to "unpack". Hiked 7.1 miles summitting 2 peaks in Rocky Mtn National Forest...worked great!

Comments about The North Face Terra 65 Pack:

Bought this pack a few months ago and finally got the chance to put it to use this past week. I got it all set up at the store and really liked the fit, nice and snug with good padding on the hips and lumbar. I'm a guy who likes things with lots of pockets, which this pack does not have. However, that's actually one of the features I like the most now. This pack feels high-speed and doesn't have a lot of bulges or straps hanging from it which is nice. The outer mesh-like pocket is great for a light jacket or rain coat that you can get to at a moments notice. I try to pack appropriately, therefore quick access items are kept in the brain (snacks, headlamp, first aid) and everything else in the main compartment.

I like the sleeping bag compartment, though I found it a little small for my setup so I unfastened the toggles to make one big compartment. I use the US Army Modular Sleep System, which, to be honest is fairly bulky. But, I was impressed, the Terra 65 held my sleep system, 3 days worth of clothes, Mountain House meals for 3 days, my GSI Halulite Dualist mess kit, a ditty bag with my "tools" (leatherman, cordage, batteries, extra flashlight, backup esbit stove), a ditty bag with snacks, camp pillow, toiletries and still had some extra room at the top.

Overall, I love this pack! Looks good, adjustable fit, feels nice and durable and has good capacity.

Comments about The North Face Terra 65 Pack:

I thought this was a wonderfully constructed pack that sought to minimize pack's construction weight while making sure comfort didn't suffer because of it. I broke it in on the Smoky Mountains and all adjustments were easily made along the way. My only cons against the pack, as some others have mentioned, were the lack of pockets or the ability to attach anything to the outside of the pack if need be. Also, it may just be me, but the sleeping bag compartment is tool small, and the inside divider between the storage area and bag area needs to be unhooked to fit it. I have a 0 degree NF Snow Shoe bag, so maybe its just bulkier than other ones. Either way, these cons don't take away from my liking of the pack and what it offers.
