I've owned a pair of these bags for over a year, and I find them to be perfect for grocery shopping. I've loaded them very heavy with 2 six packs of beer and other items in one bag and never had a problem.
You can find some other reviews on the web where people complain that the bags fell off their bikes. The bungee cord that attaches to the bottom of the bike rack does need to be adjusted to fit the bike, otherwise the bags just hang loosely. I knotted my bungee so that after attaching it to the bottom of the rack I can stretch it just enough to clip the bag to the top of the rack. With that adjustment the bags ride securely. It might sound complicated, but it's not. You'll figure it out if you just look at the bungee.

Purchased the Panniers to use for grocery shopping. They work wonderful, we over fill them regularly with everything and the panniers are able to take it. I have purchaused heavy can goods and couple six packs of bottle beer, and the pannier held it all without spilling out on the road. Like that they fold up easily for storage.

This bag is great. You can put a whole lot of stuff in it, and still have room for more. There is no zipper to close the top, but there is a snap, so you'll have to keep that in mind when packing it. Getting two is a very good decision, because you will want to even the weight out on your bike, but also so you can hold more.

Disclaimer: I did not buy these from REI. These bags fall off the rack extremely easily.I will take another poster's suggestion to tighten up the bungee, and see if that helps. Otherwise, I'll sell you a pair of these for [$]!

I just got these bags a few weeks ago and LOVe them. They go on so easily, and hold so much. I bike to work and need to take clothes to change into, as well as a lunch and my work etc, and they hold all that and more. And have a little strap on the back for your blinky light for riding home at night. This is an unbelievable price.
