Comments about Deuter ACT Lite 65 + 10 Pack:
Before I bought this pack I had been using an ill fitting backpack (growing teenager). It made backpacking a pain and I wasn't really a fan of long hikes. After much research I settled for this pack. I tried it out in-store, loaded it up with weight and walked around with it for about a hour. It felt like there was nothing back there.
It performed beautifully on a 40 mile hike I did through the Cascades last summer. There was a lot of up and down, and some sliding down the side of a mountain when we got off track. I loved having the pack.
The only complaint I have is the main pocket is a little short, so it's hard to fit a sleeping pad or tent poles (from a half dome) standing up. Easy to work around if you steal some space from the sleeping bag compartment.

Comments about Deuter ACT Lite 65 + 10 Pack:
Bought this for my son in Scouting, it's nice and light, and adjustable so he won't outgrow it. I'm very impressed with how comfortable it is. I have a Gregory Baltoro 75 and this is just as comfortable, but a lot lighter. Sleeping bag compartment is very large. You can really stuff this bag when you need it. The waist belt padding is very large which holds the bag snug for thinner waists. Only thing missing are straps on the bottom to secure a sleeping pad. There are two loops but they're not adjustable. I just strap the pad between the bag and the +10 top compartment. Otherwise, really great lightweight backpack. Highly recommended.

I am so happy with this pack..One thing I love is that it has a large pocket for your hydaration bladder.I use a 6 ltr drom bag, but you have room to put 2 3 ltr camel bacs if you wanted.. the pack seems to me to be made of pretty tough material... I love the x frame design it makes the pack very sturdy..The air contact padding move air very well and I was very suprised at how well it worked , my backed stayed cool and comfy.. The large stuff pocket in the front is great ,very easy quick access to you rain gear.. I have no complaints at all about this pack and will probly never buy another pack other than a deuter!!!!!!

Comments about Deuter ACT Lite 65 + 10 Pack:
This was my first backpacking pack, got it on sale for a good price and was very happy with my purchase. That first three day trip I packed roughly 60 pounds of gear, including a cast iron pan and a six pack of coors. I was glad i had invested in such a large pack as it was full except for the expandable extra ten liters, and I had my tent strapped on the sides thanks to the numerous attachment points. I had enough adjustment that i could futz with my straps to spread the weight between my shoulders and hips in a variety of different ways, and appreciated the little features like the two pockets on the lid.
Needless to say, the next trip i packed lighter (no cast iron!) and had a much less grueling trip. This trip was much warmer and i was very glad for the "aircontact" system which really works despite my skepticism at first. Again, I didnt use the expansion feature.
I then started to use this pack for car camping too, and that's the only time i've made full use of the 75 liter capacity. with all my stuff except chair and tent inside one pack, it made unloading at the site easier.
The bad: the lower compression strap goes over the mesh drinkholder pocket, which is annoying. I've taken to packing my light and bulky items like clothes in this area so that I don't need to really use the compression straps. The shape of the pockets also means it's difficult to reach said drink. Also, the hipbelt adjustment straps are excessively long for someone my size(30 inch waist and curves like a 2x4)and flapped around annoyingly so i just cut off the last 10 inches or so and melted the ends.
Now that my pack weight is down to around 20-30 lbs for a weeklong trip I've considered cutting out the expansion area. nitpicky? yes. But this would allow the top compartement to be removed and reattached as i please, and I may be able to make the lid into a somewhat funky looking waist pack with some webbing and clips for a summit pack.

Comments about Deuter ACT Lite 65 + 10 Pack:
Backpacked WY over 200mi last fall in the Wind R. Grand Teton, YNP and Beartooth Mts. Trips from 3 to 6 days altitudes 7 to 12K ft, off trail half the time above timberline. In 75 to 28 degrees (-5 nights), snow, rain and sleet all gear inside dry. The pack off trail was extremely stable for boulder hopping and climbing. It is very adjustable and the most comfortable I have used in 50 years of backpacking. The thin profile helped in bushwhacking, Tough fabric no tears or worn areas. The +10 worked well with GTNP's bulky bear container requirement. Caution the clips are not made for lifting the loaded pack, use the lifting loop at the top.

Comments about Deuter ACT Lite 65 + 10 Pack:
Purchased this pack in May 2012. Since this time this pack has been used on many multi night trips. I have about 200 miles on the pack and it is holding up very well. The pack is easily adjustable and I have yet to fill it up. Average pack weight with food, water for three nights has been about 25 pounds.

Comments about Deuter ACT Lite 65 + 10 Pack:
This is a comfortable light-weight pack good for 2-3 night trips.
The only problem I had with it is the placement of the side stretch pockets. They're just a little too high and too small, so you need to contort your arms to reach them while hiking. The bottom of these pockets start 2 inches above the bottom of the pack, putting them just out of reach. Also, the compression straps get in the way.
I returned mine to REI and will try the REI Flash. Plenty of room in those side pockets, and weighs less.

Best First Pack
I had an older model of this pack for about 5 years. And I used and abused it. It was my first real hiking pack and I'm glad that I purchased this as my first one.
The pack is perfect for people getting into hiknig in that it is relatively light, can hold large loads, be compressed for smaller loads, and has enough pockets for organization to make almost anyone happy. When we all started hiking we didn't all have a 2lb sleeping bag, ligth tent, and we are all from minimalist when starting. That is what makes this pack great. It is versatile and is excellent first step in learning about balancing hiking light and being comfort driven.
After 5 years though and some serious abuse, rough nights on the AT and some loads the pack was probably not designed to take, the stays in the back began to break through the mesh. sent it back in to get repaired and a week later a brand new pack was at my door. It is because of this pack I can say with 95% certainty I will never by a pack of a different brand.

Comments about Deuter ACT Lite 65 + 10 Pack:
I recently used this pack for an overnight hike in NH White Mountains. It easily held all the items I needed to bring for moderately cold weather (35 degrees at night), and has some nice features including two zippered compartments on the top cover and a sleeping bag compartment that easily accommodated my 15 degree sleeping bag, my Synmat UL M sleeping bag, a rain jacket and pack cover. I'm over 50 and the pack was very comfortable With 30 pounds of gear, I still barely felt the pack while climbing some pretty steep, rocky terrain. Most importantly, the pack was a "life saver." I managed to fall in a river, landing on my back on the pack. It not only cushioned me, but even though the top (by then, the botoom) 1/2 of the pack was underwater for about 1-015 seconds, much my gear was only slightly wet, even a shirt I had stowed in the top stretch pocket. I've only used the pack once, but I plan many more trips with it.
