Comfortable to wear, but I would like to see it in more colors (khaki or green for example). I don't like the belt--I think it would be better to just eliminate it and provide larger belt loops so wearers could use whatever they prefer.

Dont be chicken! If you're reading this then you're already thinkin' it. Go ahead and give it a try!
I'm a long hiker and pack as light as I can. That usually means just one pair of pants. The problem is that I'm none too fond of my own trail funk. After three or four days hiking in the rain, the trousers can get a bit musty. That drove me to give kilted hiking a try. I'll never go back. I tried just about every "Cargo-Kilt" out there and they were all way too heavy and way too bulky. I even made my own hiking kilt but it wasn't as good as the Elkommando. The fit is true to size, it's wonderfully light, it dries wicked fast and fits under my (Osprey Exos) pack belt better than any other pants I've worn.
Go for it! Oh, and there's the bonus that the girls LOVE guys in kilts! Just sayn'

I have now been hiking and camping with this kilt on 4 occasions since buying it. It is way more comfortable and cooler than shorts, whether worn regimental or with a pair of exofficio boxers. And a lot more convenient.
I can't imagine ever going back to shorts for hiking except when I use zipoffs for expected wide weather swings. Now all I need is a light comfortable pair of knee high gaiters for when protection is needed against nettles and overgrown trails.
I bought the xxl. I'm 6'3", 240 lbs and it fits fine. Worn at my navel it drapes to just above the middle of my knee. The belt hasn't been an issue because my pack's waistbelt covers it.
The only issue is that the snaps on the pockets should be replaced with horizontal zippers - trying to open a pocket with one hand will reveal the secret of what you are or are not wearing under this kilt.

I use this kilt for long drives, sight-seeing, walking, lounging, grocery shopping, gardening, working in my shop, and even to casual social events. I purchased a second one this year. This kilt is truly the lightest, quickest-drying modern kilt I have tried. I have modern kilts from 4 companies and have tried out others - they all have their "best uses." This one can be folded in half in a backpack, then shaken out, and worn without looking crumpled. It both dries fast and permits excellent sweat evaporation. This kilt's light weight is great in warm weather.As noted by many other reviewers a kilt (or any male unbifurcated garment -M.U.G.) has many surprising advantages over modern shorts or pants: unrestricted freedom of movement, amazing overall comfort (which men in western cultures gave up for "fashion" a few hundred years ago), and even some health / medical advantages. One advantage not often mentioned is that a kilt can be worn more days between washings than closely fitted clothing (i.e. pant legs, inseams) - an advantage for packing light. It does not pick up the body odor and oils produced by the sweat glands in the area where traditional shorts tend to bunch up and stay moist all day (both a comfort & health issue). The kilt hangs from the waist, where sweat glands produce mostly water, not oils, and it allows more air flow where natural sweat evaporation is needed more.I agree with other reviews that when you sit or kneel the front aprons do not naturally drape as modestly between your knees as they do on some heavier, more expensive modern kilts. I leave the lower-left apron snap unsnapped which allows me to push the aprons down easily when needed. And, yes, mobility could be increased by adding another pleat or two on each side around towards the front aprons, moving the pockets toward the front just a little, and maybe not sew the pleats down quite as far as they are. However, the positive effect of the low apron snaps, and low-sewn pleats is that you can hike in incredible comfort in a very strong wind without fear of an immodest moment. We're just in the beginning stages of the rediscovery of historically accurate and functional non-pants clothing for men so improvements will probably come... And I have found it to be extremely rare that anyone makes a rude comment about wearing a kilt. Though many passers-by simply do a "double-take" some people will strike up amiable conversions because of it, even at [@].

I bought this as a light, summer alternative to my beloved Utilikilts, which are a bit too heavy for hot weather. Overall, it's been a great kilt.
Pros:
Incredibly lightweight which makes it easy to pack and travel with. The material is not only very light and breathable, but also refuses to wrinkle no matter how much you crunch it up! This was a fantastic item for a recent trip through Eastern Europe in the summer. The moisture-wicking liner is also VERY comfortable. The color accomodates almost all outfits and it's almost stain-proof. Unlike the Utilikilt, the pockets are sewn down so they don't tend to flop as much when you're moving energetically. The price is excellent - this is probably the most affordable kilt on the market and it's much, much less than the Utilikilt.
Cons:
The integrated belt is fine as long as you watch your sizing (go up a size if you're in doubt). It's not exposed anywhere except the front though, so if you want to hang anything off the belt you're out of luck. The pockets are a decent size, but they're positioned just a little too close to the back of the legs, making them easy to sit on. It's something you can get used to, but it's not like a normal pant or kilt pocket and if you load them down sitting can be a bit uncomfortable. The biggest issue I had is that while the Elkommando doesn't exactly restrict your movement, it's not a loose as my Utilikilts. The front apron fastens fairly low down on the left leg which means you don't get the full freedom of movement you'd get out of a garment secured solely at the waist. It's not a big deal, but I've relished the ability to take unrestricted strides of any size while hiking over boulders in my Utilikilt and I've noticed a definite difference. The modesty snap just makes things worse and you end up feeling like you're inches away from mincing rather than walking.
Overall, it's an excellent kilt at an unbeatable price. I can't stress enough the usefulness of this as a travel garment; it's so light and packable you can bring it on any trip. While I like my Utilikilts for hiking and traveling, I'm also much more careful about damaging them. The Elkommando is something I throw in the bottom of a pack and beat up as needed. Highly recommended!

I've been searching for a skirt my BF will wear -- I got him a skort and a cord skirt, both of which he likes but was reluctant to wear cause they're "women's". I got him the Elkommando and he's barely taken it off for the last 2 weeks! He wears it with polo shirts and flipflops, clogs, or keds sneakers, and he gets tons of compliments. The skirt reaches just to his knees, drapes nicely, and shows off his calves. Thanks from a girl who loves to see her man in skirts!

I first wore this kilt in 100+ degree weather. I am now wearing it in snow at 20 degrees. I replaced the belt with 1" webbing and a side release buckle to make it easier to adjust the waist. As far as wearing "shorts" underneath - it is like drinking "lite" beer. I am looking forward to the restocking of this kilt as I have 3 other kilts - 2 sport kilts and a utility kilt. This is by far the best.

After many years of wearing restictive shorts or hot long pants on Mt Baker's approach climb I finally hiked in comfort. I found this kilt on the internet and came to the Seattle RIE to try it on. The large fit perfect. The kilt fits loose in the back thanks to the ample pleats and comfortable up front. I like the two cargo pockts for munchies, bandana or other items. I could get to the pockets even with my large pack on. The fabric is soft and dries quickly. I have a couple of "real" kilts for casual wear so I was quite happy to find one that can be used for outdoors. This is a great garment for hikes of any type. I even wear mine on my 25 minute walk to work. Great product, more color choices would be nice. For wearing at home I traded the thin web belt for a nicer looking woven leather belt. It dresses the kilt up nicely. I can always put the other belt back on when I go hiking.
