Comments about JanSport Big Bear 82 Pack - '09 Overstock:
I recently ordered this because of the low price for a large-capacity, lightweight pack. I haven't taken it on an extended trip yet, but my initial observations are that this is a slightly below average pack, but at a great price. I was looking for something with a large capacity that can be beaten up without too much of a loss. I would recommend this pack for the price alone. However, if price is not an object (and weight is not too important), I would recommend a similar sized pack from makers such as Osprey (Aether 85), REI (Mars) or GoLite (Odyssey).
The capacity and weight of the pack are great. It is easy to load and the front pocket can hold a snow shovel and probe or other often-accessed gear, such as rain gear or a water filter.
It has a hydration bladder pouch and the buckles seem to be of average (for this weight) quality. I'm 5'9", and it seems to adjust fairly well to my frame. However, I do not think it would work well for someone much shorter than that (of course, dependent on your torso/legs ratio).
My main complaint with this pack is the lower quality padding used in the shoulder straps and the fact that the top compartment is not floating and therefore can not be expanded or removed.
Things I would change:
*Better padding in shoulder straps and hip belts
*More water resistant material
*Floating top compartment
*Hipbelt pocket

Comments about JanSport Big Bear 82 Pack - '09 Overstock:
i got this bag a while ago, and it has been wonderful!!! i can fit everything in it! and the straps smush it together like dream!!! whats cool about the straps to, is it can be a big bag for week hikes, or a little one, for 3-4 day trips! i'd recommend it! has alot of fun pockets and storage!!! the only downside for me is that i am addicted to lip balm, and there is no pocket on the hip strap!!! so i have to stash it in my pocket (heaven forbid i have stuff in my pants pockets!) great bag for the light adventurer to the avid pro i'd say!

used this pack for a trip in to climb Capitol Peak in Colorado. I was able to pack in a bunch of stuff. I was able to fit everything in the bag with ease. It sat on my hips nice and the shoulder straps could be easily adjusted while hiking without stopping. Great pack for the price, would recommend it to anyone.
