    Comments about REI Screen House:

I used this screen house several times. The first time was in the woods in WV. It was great and kept the bugs off us. The screen mesh doesn't let a lof of air movement in, though, so I would get a fan or something to help keep it cool. We fit four people comfortably with the walls closed.

The second time was in the Outer Banks of NC. It was a very windy weekend, but with the guy lines and the rain fly, it kept us pretty dry and stayed up albeit crookedly. When we took it down, though, the poles were all bent. Not a problem - REI just replaced it for me. :) The extra large picnic tables JUST fit, and the wind made for some pulls in the mesh, but didn't create holes.

I definitely recommend getting the rain fly - it helps with shade and rain protection. Extra guy lines will not go amiss either.

This was really the best I could find. I do camping in all kinds of conditions and this fit them all best for the price. You can open two sides of it to let air through if the bugs aren't bad, and it keeps them out if they are.

    Comments about REI Screen House:

After purchasing this product we used it in the Black Hills of S.D. initially it was a great piece of equipment as we used it for our kitchen. A rain shower came in with minimal wind. Everything was drenched then it collapsed and bent several of the support poles. I can't say enough good things about the warranty of REI as they replaced it. This year we took the new one along on our camping trip in Arkansas. Again here came a thunder shower and there is not enough roof area to keep anything dry. Then a gust of wind came and again it collapsed but this time it did not bend the poles all up. There are only 4 guy lines provided and it needs at least 8 in my opinion. The new one seems more flimsy than the first one. It was properly staked and guyed. It is a shame you can not go off exploring and come back expecting your equipment to still be intact. I would never go off and leave this room up and that is why I would not recommend this product to anyone unless it was for a backyard afternoon bug screen. It is a fair weather piece of equipment in my honest opinion.

    Comments about REI Screen House:

Just returned from a canoe trip in Canada. The screen house was a life-saver when the sun went down. It offered complete protection from the bugs. I slept under it on 2 nights when it didn't rain. It's easy to set up, but even firmly staked, it's not going to withstand much wind. Any wind speed greater than 15-20 mph may present a problem, although that's a guess. It was worth the carrying weight and everyone on the trip thought it was essential gear.

      Comments about REI Screen House:

We bought this shelter for some bug-free car camping. Overall, we appreciated having it. We liked the interior pockets, 4 zippered entances, and interior caribeener loops for hanging clothes to dry or a battery powered lantern. We also liked the ease of setup. However...

      1. Orange guyline cords are not reflective. We tripped at night and nearly choked ourselves. The cords attach at head height from each corner, and need to be staked out fairly far to stabilize the screen house. We suggested to customer service that they make the cords reflective, their response...we sell reflective cord. Uggh!

      2. White canopy does not give adequate shade from direct sun. We got hot.

      3. Some crafty bugs will find their way in. Bring a fly swatter.

      4. Not all CA State Park picnic tables are created equal. I like to cook on my camp stove on the edge of the table, so it took some manuvering to get a good fit in the 10'x10'.

      5. 1 sided rain fly. Need I say more?

      Comments about REI Screen House:

We bought this screen house in the summer of 2011 and have used it several times. We did not like the fly REI offered. After doing some searching on-line, we found that the L.L. Bean fly sold for its screen house would fit this one. We ordered from L.L. Bean (free shipping) and sure enough, it fits great. We now have a screen house set-up that can be closed in on all sides when we leave camp during the day and at night. It is not totally bug-proof because we go in and out and we don't install the floor, but almost. No see-um net works great. We had to add addition staking during a wind storm in West Yellowstone. Winds were 20+ mph and one side of the screen house was taking a direct hit. It caved in some until we added additional stakes and opened the fly on two sides to let air through. If you're interested in the L.L. Bean fly, check measurements for current version to make sure it will fit REI's.

      Comments about REI Screen House:

I have been using the REI screen house for only one season, and I have been extremely happy with my purchase. This is a screen house...not a tent! I use this as a shade structure, and to keep away from insects. I have slept inside when there was nice weather, but had my tent ready to go if needed. I like to set this up with an old rug and pillows inside for a nice chill spot to read. This product has done exactly what I had hoped it would for the most part. I wish this was a system sometimes with options for different walls or a floor. Or what if you could connect two together? Dunno just thinking outloud incase a designer is reading this.

      A few things to note.

Does not come with a rainfly. Que? Really REI?
That said this is not designed for heavy weather anyway, but if you are camping in a location that gets a lot of rain then a rainfly is nice.
You should use the stakes and tie downs that come with it! seriously...it works in the wind if set up correctly! (Do not take this to an extreme environment like burning man. I suspect you would be disappointed.)

All in all a great product when used correctly and as designed.

Used my screen room for the first time and it worked great. I'm really glad I got the rain fly. It really takes two to set up but with practice, I'm sure I could do it alone. I've very pleased with it so fare and will be using it again this weekend.

        Comments about REI Screen House:

I've used this screen house for a specific family trip for 4 years, one time a year. I've been fortunate to have camped in good weather. And, in good weather conditions the shelter worked. As other have commented, it is a bit cramped, and the zippers are not the best.

I experienced some "bad" weather on this year's trip and one tent pole failed. After "fixing" the pole with the supplied repair piece, the other pole failed... I wouldn't characterize the weather as particularly "bad". Shelters of other makes happily rode out the storm with no ill effects.

Currently, I need to decide whether to have the poles repaired or buy a new shelter - not another Screen House.

        Comments about REI Screen House:

I took this on a 4 day canoe trip (swan lakes in AK) with my sons' scout troop. We used it as our tent at night and cook hut in the day time. I really like it , but didn't like the fly and did not get the rei fly as my friend did, I found a different one that fits well and I will use until rei makes one with four sides like the one I found, we stayed dry and happy while my friend was praying the rain would not change directions. We did not care about the rain or wind and slept great with one adult and 5 teenage boys all in the screen house.

          Comments about REI Screen House:

This was the star product of our recent trip. You have to be somewhat crazy to take a back country camping trip to Assateague Island, MD in the summer is because of the sheer volume of mosquitoes on the island. This tent was a savior and safe haven from the all the bugs. Set-up and take down took maybe 3 minutes max, it was super lightweight and could easily fit over a picnic table with plenty of room on either side to walk around. It felt roomy and spacious, the zippers moved like butter and there were some nice pockets in the side to stash some gear. We also took this to the beach and were again impressed with the versatility of the tent. It provided ample shade and even with a strong breeze it felt study when staked it in the sand. Overall, a stellar product from REI that could be used for a million different things.
