These pants fit very poorly. The waist was very tight compared to the room in the hips. I am an hourglass figure and I never have this problem with pants - usually the opposite. Also, the rise is very long. The waist hit me above the belly button - very uncomfortable. I am 5'10" with a proportioned torso for my height so this wasn't due to me being short-waisted. I'm sending them back. I can't imagine hiking in these.

I usually wear a 4 long in jeans and have these in a M tall. I find the fit to be comfortable and non-restrictive, even when worn over other pants (jeans, fleece pants, long underwear, etc). The ankle zipper is sufficiently long to put these on over my hiking boots.

I primarily wear these for biking to work in the rain. So far they have kept me completely dry and I appreciate that they pack down small so I can keep them in my backpack whenever there is even a chance of rain.

I have also used them as wind pants during a weekend backpacking trip. I brought them along because there was a chance of snow, but ended up being really happy I had them since the wind blew hard all weekend. They do not provide much insulation, but over a pair of long undies I was comfortable (while moving) in 40 degree temps with the wind blowing at 40 mph.

A final note: these are rain pants. They are not particularly stylish, nor should they be. I bought them to replace a pair of Marmot Precip pants (M tall) that were so stylish (read: tight) that I couldn't get on my bike without fear of ripping them. Going up a size didn't help much, as the waist was huge but the thighs were still too tight. If you are looking for waterproof pants that will make your butt look good, then these might not be the best option. But if you want to be able to move in your rain pants, I whole heartedly recommend these.

I purchased for my 5'8 now 5'9 daughter. She plays in the snow, x-country ski's, camps, hikes, bikes, clam digging, kayaking... in them. She always stays perfectly dry year round and they still look like new. I barrowed them this last rain drenched summer for a few excusions in down poors. I'm abt 5'5 and while they were of course a little long they were do able with hiking boots. I wanted somthing lighter to pack then my gortex pants and they did not have in stock @ local REI this summer- sold out. We hiked for hours in a complete down poor in a rain forest in Resurection bay, Alaska. The trees were also pooring on us as well as the sky and the trail had turned to streem for half of the treck. I over dressed on the top hiked with my jacket open. I was still dry from the waist down. Theses and gortex boots are the way to go. Did this a few times with the same result. They are amazing. Purchasing a Reg legnth pair for self and another daughter. -Oh and for rain paints a flatering fit. The lenght of the waist is long but is good for layering and seriously if you need to wear them then it's under your jacket and you don't want to bend over in the rain and get plumers butt. They are perfect. Do note the inside of the shell is chilly they are for over paints-transfer the cold.

just received these today, so no comment on the performance yet.

re: the fit - great length, but the pants are tapered and have a VERY large rise. a high waist is okay so that it doesn't chafe under hip-belts BUT the front pockets/zippers sit directly over my hipbones. i wear a 4long in pants, and the small/tall are the right size.

nice fabric, good weight, but i might return them before i wear them in public.
