The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Gerber Crucial Multitool:
I bought this for my son to use with Scouts. It maybe lasted two months before he managed to break the pliers. Once one of the jaws had snapped off, the thing became pretty useless.
The build quality is not the best. If the materials are improved then this would be a viable alternative but for now - I wish I would have spent a little more and got something more durable.

Comments about Gerber Crucial Multitool:
The knife is a good all-around tool. It is a little small yet still has the same features as a bigger knife. I bought this one because my Leatherman was about twice as heavy. The price was the decision point for me. I was looking at a new Leatherman but the price has gotten so expensive I feel like you are just paying for a name. Even though lower priced this knife is still well made.

Comments about Gerber Crucial Multitool:
This has been a great multi tool so far. Its been on many back country backpacking trips and has been put to great use. I did find myself wishing for additional tools/function at times (scissors).
It was my daily carry for about a year. I would constantly play with the knife, flipping it open and closed. Eventually this pointless use loosened the pin holding that end of the tool together, resulting in a severe wobble.
Enter Customer Service. I sent the knife in, (NO RA # required), with my return address and within 2 weeks I had a brand new knife. All i had asked them to do was clean and tighten the bolt. I could have easily done this myself but i couldn't find the appropriate sized wrench.
I've been very pleased with the knife and even more so with Gerber.

Comments about Gerber Crucial Multitool:
I fell in love with this tool because it was inexpensive, felt good, and does exactly what I need it to do. Not too much, and definitely not too little. I especially like that the partially serrated blade has a very functional length and can be opened quickly with the nub at its base. I'm also a big fan of being able to lock every tool.
Unfortunately, although most of the tool is corrosion resistant, the locking mechanisms are not. I left my Crucial in my pocket while swimming in a river yesterday, and the piece of metal that locks the screwdriver bits in place has started to rust despite my attempts to dry and clean the tool thoroughly. I expect that the similar metal piece that locks the blade will start rusting soon as well. It's not a huge problem, but I'm sure it will reduce the life of the tool and make the tools harder to open over time. I think that's a pretty big design oversight by Gerber, but I guess that's why the cost is so low.
Oh well! Time to get a Leatherman, I guess.

Comments about Gerber Crucial Multitool:
I picked up the Gerber Crucial over two years ago and I have to admit, after going through two of them, it is one of my favorite multi-tools.
Downsides:
Pocket Clip; will come off quickly since it is very shallow and the 2 mount screws are very small and it really does not matter how often they are tightened.
Bottle Opener; Is just that, the bottle opener itself is fantastic. Using it as a binder to carry the tool around; fail. The swing gate will get destroyed quickly.
Upsides:
Blade; Mini-tanto combo serrated style is an easy to maintain blade. Straight edge sharpens quickly and retains for a decent duration or heavy use. Opens and closes easlily once broken in, clean movement while bare handed and gloved.
Pliers; Since the grip is shorter than most multi-tools, it takes a little bit to get used to where and how exactly to grasp it. I've added pics for the way it fits my hands & placement. The curved grip allows for a little more torque, without the tool slipping from your hand. Also, holding the tool utilizing the reverse curve of the base of the grip for a *no pinches* usage, even with gloves on and stable handling, is a great bonus.
Drivers;
Honestly the best parts of the Crucial, actual drivers that LOCK into place!!! (pics attached). Again the slight ergo-curve of the tool makes turning the drivers utlizing your palm drastically more comfortably than most other multi-tools. But the fact the each driver locks into place is the greatest bonus, no more tool head sliding out sideways to damage your hands & fingers.
Comments:
I normally just carry the tool in a molle style case or small tool kit. It is smaller than other tools length wise, but thicker than most as well, so not very comfortable in your front pockets.
Hope this helps!

Comments about Gerber Crucial Multitool:
When I saw this, I thought "cool". A multi-tool with a belt clip. I don't like using pouches so I put a bulky multi-tool in my pocket and have a knife clipped to my pants. This product will will negate the need to bring both tools and frees up pocket space.
The belt clip bent several times over the course of just a few days, then the belt clipped snapped in 2. if I can't clip it, I might as well bring a more complete tool.
I read the packaging and it says "made in China". I don't mind it being made there if the quality can be assured. But I've had pocket knives that are China made that have lasted for years. This product actually has the Gerber name on it and it didn't even last a week.

Comments about Gerber Crucial Multitool:
I like this tool, it is something I carry everywhere. The first one I bought has some issues; the implements did not seem to snap into place when closed. There was always a little wiggle room. The point at which I decided to return it for another was when the pocket clip fell off after I had repeatedly tightened the screws to the point they had stripped out. The second one I got after returning the first ([...]) was a lot better. None of the implements seem to be loose except for the clip/bottle opener, which after reading other posts seems to be par. Over all I do not regret buying this tool, I don't think you can get a better product for the price.

Comments about Gerber Crucial Multitool:
This is a great little multi-tool. The construction is very solid and the tools open and close very easily. A few people have given this multi-tool a low rating because it lacks more tools. In my opinion these people don't get the concept of tools being made for certain applications. If they want one with more tools then they should have purchased one of those. Since I needed a multi-tool that was compact and had a knife and pliers/wire cutters it serves my needs perfectly. If you only need a multi-tool that has a few key tools and rock solid construction then this is the one for you.

Comments about Gerber Crucial Multitool:
I use this every single day. I have cut rope, bashed it against rocks and steel, picked out cactus, dropped it in the sand and stepped on it, opened beer bottles, fixed systems with the screwdriver and hung upside down with it in my pocket. I work on a SAR team in the desert and am always loaning it out for a quick use. Others who use it compliment me on what a sweet little thing it is. True, it isn't going to be the 100 tool Swiss Army knife, but why do you need that much? I have had it for almost two years and it is still sharp. We compare our multi-tools with each other and other teams, and I can honestly say I wouldn't change it for anything.
The only problems I have ever had with it is the bottle opener will slip on the lid if you are not careful, and it doesn't have a can opener. It gets dirty easy (as I said, I've squished it in the sand) but you just take a q-tip and clean it out before spraying a little WD-40. As the name states, it has everything crucial on it you could need.

Comments about Gerber Crucial Multitool:
For the price this is a pretty decent tool. Although, the tool is fairly hard to clean. I, unfortuntately, got a little sand into the tool and have found it near impossible to get fully functioning again. On the other hand, for the price you could do a lot worse.
