Comments about REI Recycled Camp Mug - 12 fl. oz.:
Mug works great. I have had mine at work for over a year and the trees are still on it and I work in skilled trades so it gets beat up. I have dropped it from 3 stories up on to concrete and its fine. Its a great rinse and resue mug.

LOVE THIS MUG! Fits perfectly under the mini-Keurig for my morning cup of coffee to work.
I have the older versions with the trees. I have dishwashered on high heat/sanatize and microwaved the mug. After two years, not a single stencil has started to come off of the outside.
Perfect cup for my three year olds 'coffee' (hot cocoa)!

Comments about REI Recycled Camp Mug - 12 fl. oz.:
This mug is great. It does not keep coffee warm any longer than a standard coffee mug in your cupboard, but i did not expect this. This mug has gone back packing with me and not once did I think that I had accidentally pack a brick in my back pack. I did think that I had packed a fantastic little mug that is a mug and functions as a mug and is a good little mug that holds coffee like a mug and has a lid.
As an end note: Barista's dig it and always over fill it so that the lid spills the drink when put on.

Comments about REI Recycled Camp Mug - 12 fl. oz.:
I bought a mug for each member of the family for a camping trip.
Every morning my husband and I had our coffee in the mug. The children would have either cereal, oatmeal or hot chocolate in their mugs. One cool evening we even had soup in them. With the lid on the contents stayed warm for quite a while.
They cleaned up easily with the dish soap and water. When not in use they were clipped to the exterior of the pack by a carabiner or tossed into the "kitchen bag". Upon our return home I inspected them for damage. After reading the reviews I was concerned that the exterior might come off. Even if the exterior design would have come off I would not be unhappy with these mugs. I didn't buy them because they were pretty. I bought them because they would be functional. The design on the outside was fine. No scratches, peeling or anything. I can't say we were gentle with them during use either. They have been thoroughly washed and put away with our camping gear, awaiting our next adventure.

I really like this cup. It caught my eye last year while in the REI store because it was pretty. I love purple and it's feminine. The material is very strong and I have washed it in the dishwasher many times and it has stood up well. The trees and other parts of the design are fine after 8 months. It keeps my coffee warm enough, but I drink my coffee rather quickly after having been poured.
The only slight con is that it doesn't fit in my cup holders in my car. But I was pleased as punch when I went to REI today and saw the 12 oz recycled tumbler in a travel coffee mug style- taller, without a handle- so that I can use this on our next urban camping trip out east in two weeks. So, this camp mug has now been relegated to our urban kitchen and the new style of the tall mugs will become our traveling mugs/camping mugs.

Last summer I bought two of these for my children on a camping/hiking trip to western Colorado. Here is the summary of my impressions:
1. Heavy like a brick even for camp use.
2. Does not hold temperature very well at all. Contrary to REI's ad it will definitely not "keep your coffee or tea hot all morning long".
3. Expensive for what it is - a basic plastic mug.

we got these cups when we went from summer to winter hiking. went out on our first winter hike, about 25 degrees, with a little wind, by the time you get the water boiling for coffee then heat up lunch, the coffee is getting cold in other or paper cups. went out snowshoeing, made coffee in these cups then heater up lunch, coffee was still hot 30 minutes latter in these cups.

I really liked these. I bought them to take on a ten day car camping trip, and they worked well the whole time. They were insulated enough for hot drinks and I liked having the lids to keep bugs and dust out. They were easy to clean and I didn't notice any plastic taste in them.

Comments about REI Recycled Camp Mug - 12 fl. oz.:
The color and tree print look pretty cool, and the mug works well enough and is insulated and is made of recycled materials (cool!). However, I wouldn't drop the dough on another. A:after about a week of uses, the print is wearing off, and you wouldn't think that would happen as "REI" logo is smudging atrociously as well. B: I packed in a hurry for a quick backpacking trip, where I, of course, realized how hella heavy this sucker is (too heavy to be not super great at insulating). C: it cleans nicely, but immediately the inside got kinda scratched up from a rego green sponge. All in all, we could all do better.

My partner and I got these mugs recently at a local REI for a car camping trip. The mugs did their jobs well. They were used to hold coffee and hot cocoa throughout the weekend. They were super easy to clean and kept our drinks warm in the 30 degree weather.
This mug is now my go to for my morning java at work. I also clean it out to use for water later in the day. I love the lid of the mug because it doesn't need to be toggled open, but keeps liquids from spilling on my keyboard if I have a clumsy moment.
For the complainers.. it seems they have too high of expectations for a mug. It's not uber expensive and it keeps your drinks warm for a realistic amount of time. If you're looking to hold a lot of hot drink for a long time look into buying a double walled thermos.
I have both the mug and a nice thermos and choose the mug over it every time out of convenience.
