The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Jumbo 54 Auto Umbrella:
great size, fits in luggage without hassle, only first time I used it, it got stuck and couldn't fold.
It wouldn't fit in the luggage coming back, so had to leave it at the hotel.

Comments about REI Jumbo 54 Auto Umbrella:
Love this umbrella. I was torn between the jumbo and the regular travel umbrella. Despite the mixed reviews I decided to give this a try and I'm glad I did. After suffering with the minimal protection from my mini umbrella, I wanted something that would actually keep me dry when it rained. But at the same time I wanted something portable because I knew I'd loose it if I couldn't fit it into my bag. This umbrella is huge and it definitely does the job. People are constantly surprised that I can fold it up and carry in my bag. When open, its almost the same size as one of my coworkers' golf umbrella. I do have some minor complaints. One is that the umbrella is weighty. It probably weighs 3x my previous umbrella but I don't mind it if it means keeping dry. The other thing is that due to the size of the umbrella, you really feel the force of the wind. It hasn't flipped over but I feel like I'm being shoved around when the wind picks up. But that stuff is relatively minor, I've had the umbrella for about 5 months and I don't regret buying this umbrella. I would definitely recommend this to anybody that values staying dry. But if you want something that'll easily fit into your purse, then you may want to opt out.

Comments about REI Jumbo 54 Auto Umbrella:
I am a frquent business traveller. I wanted a large umbrella that would be resistant to wind. This umbrella was supposedly good at resisting wind. Frankly, I never had the opportunity to test that. I only had to use it a few times total over about a year, but each time, it would work litterally less than a half dozen times before it would have some sort of mechanical failure. The first was in one of the arms that hold the umbrealla canopy. I exchanged it for another at a local store. The second one lasted about another half dozen times. The second one will no longer extend. Of course you only find these things out when it is raining. I will never get one of these brands again.

Comments about REI Jumbo 54 Auto Umbrella:
I've been living in NW Spain- a very rainy region much like the Pacific NW- for the past 3 months. I use my REI umbrella almost daily. I'm pleased with the size of the umbrella and ample coverage. It's big enough to cover two people comfortably. It's also small enough to put in my backpack and it's not heavy at all. And although it flips often, it has yet to tear or break (knock on wood). However, I am disappointed with a few things. In windy conditions it will flip upwards without a doubt. Everything I read about it being able to resist extremely windy conditions is bogus. Not only that but the carabiner has already broke and the sleeve has begun to tear. I find the sleeve to be a little too small so that it's kind of a pain to put it on the umbrella when going inside. I was also surprised that you have to use a considerable amount of force to close the umbrella after pressing the closing mechanism button. All in all, for all the money I paid for this I wish I had gotten a cheaper, better umbrella.

Comments about REI Jumbo 54 Auto Umbrella:
I've been a fanatic about oversized automatic folding umbrellas for the last 17 years and they are really, really hard to find. So when I do find one, I always buy at least one spare. My previous ones have been a tad larger in coverage (51" w/a 56" arc vs REI's 48" w/a 54" arc), but also longer (20"-22" vs 14-3/4") which made them harder to pack in a smaller carry-on and too large to fit into my backpack. I was so happy to discover this umbrella. It folds down small enough for my smallest carry-on and backpack, and even fits under the flap of my messenger bag purse and the cover with the carabiner and strap are fantastic. The cushioned handle also makes it the most comfortable umbrella to hold. It covers 2 people comfortably, where I could squeeze 3 people under my previous ones, but all of the great features make this a great find! It's pricey, but there is no competition. The wind resistance isn't an issue for me, since I prefer just my raincoat w/hood on really windy days (I live in tornado country), but the reviews for the 43" travel umbrella suggest that this one should hold up okay w/wind. The one other review disagrees, but I'd still give it a chance.
Take it from me, I've tried every model of oversized automatic folding umbrella available in the US in the last 17 years and this one is the best one out there, by far!! I bought one as a gift, but I won't tell you how many I bought for myself or you'd really see what a fanatic I am. ;-)
Comments about REI Jumbo 54 Auto Umbrella:
As someone who spends a great deal of time waiting for public transportation and walking outdoors, I have been searching for an umbrella that can withstand gusts of wind without breaking or flipping upward. After reading the overwhelmingly positive reviews of the REI travel-sized umbrella, I decided to purchase this larger product mistakenly assuming that it was just a jumbo version of the travel-sized one. This umbrella is enormous (golf-size), which seemed ideal for more coverage, but within three minutes of using it in only moderate winds it flipped upward twice. Because this umbrella is so large, it was very difficult to control and took a great deal of struggle to return to its original position. I should also note that it takes two hands to completely close the umbrella after the button mechanism folds the spokes back down because the umbrella is so large.I am surprised and disappointed with the ineffectiveness of this product, particularly since it appears to be identical to the travel-size umbrella. Its description even boasts: "the REI Jumbo 54 umbrella is ready to take on wet and windy weather," "Vented canopy is engineered to resist extremely windy conditions," and "Steel-shaft-and-rib construction stands up to strong winds." I wonder if I am wrong in assuming that all of these descriptions imply it won't flip upside-down on a moderately windy day. I ended up returning it [...]and I've purchased the REI travel-size umbrella in hopes that the reviews hold up.
