Lights quickly, and boils a pint of water within a couple minutes. Used same fuel canister for since purchasing 2 years ago to heat water on campouts for instant coffee, mate, tea and hot chocolate. could see using for dehydrated meals as well. Keep in bug out bag for short term meal prep and would use on overnight canoe or backpack trips. not ideal for longer term light weight requirements due to size, but nice that 3 cup size container packs the fuel and frame inside.

Other than time to light being a bit longer than advertised at sea level, only con is that the neoprene insulation around the container is pretty flimsy and will heat up and slip if you grab the handle. Also, the 'lid' is cheap plastic that will warp. Otherwise, very useful and always impresses around the breakfast table at campouts due to speed and size.

Love the JetBoil Flash. Boils water quickly. The neoprene sleeve makes it exceptionally easy to handle and the sip-top makes it easy to either drink from directly or to pour from. You can use the stove portion without the cup to cook with a small pot or skillet.

I just used it for the first time on a backcountry weekend trip at Joshua Tree.

It was so easy for us to heat up water in minutes to cook our freeze dried prepackaged food. What's also great is that I was able to cook eggs in a pan over the stove with ease as well. We did a stove test with my friend's Whisperlite stove and my Jetboil stove. I cooked the eggs in high wind conditions in a matter of two minutes whereas she had the hardest time lighting her stove in the harsh desert wind. I ended up cooking her eggs for her as well.

I love my Jetboil and it made my friend a believer as well. Only drawback is that we are planning a 9 day trip on JMT and there is no maintenance kit for the Flash. I am sure my Jetboil will be ok but I would feel better if I had a maintenance igniter kit for it.

I only wish the pot was smaller. Jetboil has made the smaller models now. I love this thing other wise. Your entire cook kit is self contained in the jetboil. fuel, stand, burner, bandana for cleaning, and mini bic for back up lighting all fits inside the pot. I use a rubberband to keep the lid on. It is a bit large however it has everything you need. and you can boil water above the line on the pot just fine. I have never had my stove fall over or blow over at all. I am always looking at ways to make my kit smaller and more efficient but keep coming back to my jetboil setup. it just works and keeps working. my push to light switch still works as new and I have had my kit since they first came out, that's years now I have not cleaned or replaced a single part. outstanding stove and you won't regret it.

Works as designed. I also purchased the coffee press for this cooking system and after a couple tries was making great coffee. It boils fast, sounds like a jet engine and for the most part packs up within itself.

I used the Jetboil system while motorcycle camping and backpacking.

Good points:

• Boils water really fast. Literally, debunks the myth that a watched pot never boils.
• The mug is great. Keeps the hot coffee hot for a long time.
• Easy to pack up everything.
• Heat indicator on the insulating foam is kind of cool.

Bad points:

• For some reason, I've had a lot of problems lighting the gas. In fact, I got so annoyed, I took it back for replacement at REI. The new one still has that problem, but I'm so used to it, I guess I don't care any more.
• If you get overflow from the mug, it's makes a huge mess, and can mess up the heating element.
• Controlling the temp seems to be problematic (and may be related to the lighting difficulty). I seem to be able to get high and off as my choices of temperature. Again, not a huge problem, but annoy8ing.
• I found it unstable, once a high wind knocked over the whole setup. It has a high form factor.

However, all in all, I think the system is pretty good, just not perfect. It fits easily into a pack. It's well made. And I've overcome the issues that I have with the system, which may just be bad luck.

Cannot imagine an more convenient way to boil water on a backpacking trip. Used it on a short, two-night trip as a test. Used it in 20 degree weather just fine, althought it takes a bit longer for the water to boil. Packs well, assembles easily, lights simply, and is very effective. This is a "must have" item!
