Comments about Rossignol BC X11 75mm Backcountry Ski Boot:
These were purchased to replace another manufacturer's pair of similar boots that failed after only 100mi of skiing. With only 20mi of skiing in them it's too early to comment on durability, hence the 4 star rating.
I have a wide foot, so am forced to get a size larger for boots like these with a normal width. Fortunately, I have not had issues with heel blisters, after about 20mi of skiing in them. I did get one tender spot on the shin, but that was probably self-inflicted by having the straps too tight.
The boot is a little too stiff for classic track skiing in good snow and is a little too soft for telemark in difficult snow. The boots are best for touring in firm/icy conditions (groomed/ungroomed), when paired with metal-edged skis. I do like the fact the sole is torsional stiff, compared to other BC boots I have used (both 75mm and NNN-BC). This really helps set the ski edges in turns and stopping.
It takes a while to get used to the funky buckle release on the straps - push the edges of the buckle inward (toward the foot/leg). The laces seem a little long, but they can still be tucked in the lace cover.

Comments about Rossignol BC X11 75mm Backcountry Ski Boot:
Like the poster above said, there's a spot right below the right ankle that rubs all the time, and after 2 hours -- you can't even walk in them, it hurts so bad. I would suggest going with another boot.

Comments about Rossignol BC X11 75mm Backcountry Ski Boot:
I break trail and ski in rolling Colorado mountain backcountry with occasional tele turns for 40-50 days per year. Boot is warm except when submerged in powder for extended periods. Very comfortable and offers good support when turning. BUT, the ratchet buckle on the forward compression straps of both boots are riveted to flimsy fabric straps and have broken off after less than two seasons of skiing. Surely an old-line ski company like Rossi could have done a better job of engineering! Mine go back to REI this week.

Comments about Rossignol BC X11 75mm Backcountry Ski Boot:
My old Asolo Snowfield boots finally died, giving me a chance to try to update my gear. I tried out NNN-BC gear but it just didn' make me happy. The moment I tried these on at the store, I knew these were the right boots. They're comfy, supportive, and warm - better than my Snowfields in nearly every way.
These are the perfect compromise between tourability and just a tad of tele-ability for me.

Comments about Rossignol BC X11 75mm Backcountry Ski Boot:
I bought these boots to kickstart my backcountry ski collection because i liked the amount of control in turning that the 75mm binding provided and the amount of support that these boots gave. I had to buy these online as no REI stores near me carried them, so i didn't realize until they came that they had a spot on the inside of the right ankle, just below the protruding bone that rubbed and tore a nice chunk out of my skin when I tried them out for the first time. Needless to say, back to REI they went.
Everything else about this boot was amazing- comfortable to walk in, great support, warm, custom-molded footbeds, they looked bombproof, and everything. If I see them at a different REI store, I will try on as many pairs as they have in my size to try and find one that doesn't rub, but don't buy them online.

Comments about Rossignol BC X11 75mm Backcountry Ski Boot:
i would caution against buying these boots! i have a pair and after only about ten outings they broke. the upper buckle is attached to the boot by a soft material that is not leather. i don't know how it happened (didn't slice it off with the ski, because it was on the outboard side of the boot away from the skis) but i'm guessing it was just wear from kicking and gliding. the buckle was still attached to the plastic strap and the strap was just waving in the wind!
i was wondering about that piece when i first got them out of the package... on the bright side, they are light and comfortable to walk in. i ski them with karhus 10th mountains and a voile 3 pin cable binding. i think the next purchase might just be some old school 3 pin leather boots.
i have tried garmont excursions on this set up and that was ok too. would prefer that if i was going downhill more often. kicking and gliding was very doable in them, just not near as comfy.

Comments about Rossignol BC X11 75mm Backcountry Ski Boot:
Man, I really wanted to like these boots and I waited until I put in a lot of miles before writing a review. The biggest problem I've had with these boots is the buckle/strap system. It's too small and you can't adjust the ratchet buckle without taking gloves off. The straps are also thin plastic, so if you're using them in -20 weather or colder, expect them to break.

Comments about Rossignol BC X11 75mm Backcountry Ski Boot:
My foot is on the wide side, and these fit me like a glove. The thermo-mold inner liner is great at conforming to your foot. The ratchet two-buckle system is great at giving a snug and secure fit. These are great for backcountry touring on low to moderate slopes with a variety of metal-edged skis. I use them with standard 3-pin bindings to keep things light and simple. I also pull my kids with the Chariot system and my boot/ski combo is great at giving the added support needed. One reviewer gave it a poor rating because it did not fit their foot. Fit should not be a criteria for rating footwear performance and construction.

Comments about Rossignol BC X11 75mm Backcountry Ski Boot:
Great boot, warm, comfortable, and just the right combination of rigid/flexibility. Great for overnighters since they are very comfortable and warm to wear around camp. Waterproof, and damage resistant since I always go off the beaten path. Overall a good boot for touring, and moderate downhill.

Comments about Rossignol BC X11 75mm Backcountry Ski Boot:
I skied about 20 days last season on these boots. Performance wise they are great. My technical ability noticably improved when I replaced my old leather snowfields with them. Durability is the issue. There is an upward facing seam that wraps around the toe that metal ski edges are subject to catching on and will eventually rip unless protective measures are taken. I returned those boots to REI for a new pair and bought some gaitors that may do the trick, but I may have to modify them.
