by fromNew style is disappointing Loved previous style . Great for early golf , zip legs off when warmer . New front pockets are too small , vertical design restricts access . I prefer belt on outside , do not use " hidden " belt that comes with pants . Need to add belt loop to left front . Have reccomended these to many others , will point out disappointment with new style now .

by fromVery disappointed These pants are awful. The "abrasion-resistant fabric" wore through in ONE WEEKEND of serious climbing/hiking in the White Mountains. Also the stitching on an entire side of one of the rear pockets disintegrated. I was climbing a steep trail that required a bit of butt-sliding coming down, and these pants held up much worse than pants I paid half this price for and put through similar torture. I will probably send them back to North Face.

by fromNot that great Generally a good idea but several issues. Firstly the material in the seat is abrading, after only a few days of use. Secondly it's necessary to take off hiking boots to remove the leg sections. Lastly I find the fly zipper doesn't come down low enough. On the plus side, I find them light in weight, they dry fast but provide decent protection against moderate wind and precipitation.

by fromExcellent but... I purchased a pair two months ago. I went on two backpacking trips this summer and these pants felt comfortable, breathable and look very good. However, parts of the zipper material are not very durable. The zipper handle is metal, but the separating zipper and connecting base are plastic. This is were The North Face went wrong. On my first trip, while converting them into shorts one side of the zipper base broke off. I had to hold the zipper base together in order to engage the zipper. Guess what happened on my second trip? Yes, the zipper base on the other leg broke off! Again I had to hold the broken base together while engaging the zipper. I really like this pair and I'm holding off on purchasing another pair until they upgrade this part. The NF quality control dept should invest in some quality brass or aluminum YKK zippers. I guess this is what you get when the North Face outsources to [*]. http://www.zipperstop.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=garden_flypage.tpl&product_id=232&category_id=60&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=73

by fromWorse than before I'm on my third pair. The first 2 pairs were of teh old style, which works much better for me due to better pocket arrangement and waist fit. On the new style same size is much smaller in the waist.

by fromSize conundrum... I ran into length vs waist size problem. I typically wear 34/34 waist/length pants. The Large is about an inch short but the waist size is perfect. The Extra Large is the perfect length but the waist is way too big. Wish there was a Large Long size. Oh well.

by fromSolid, rain-resistant, comfortable These pants are great. I wore one pair through all four days of the Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu. They seemed to resist both dirt and rain, were warm enough when the temperature dropped at the summit but breatheable enough that I never felt hot, and were very comfortable. The only thing keeping them from getting five stars is the lack of a zippered, hidden, or other "stash" pocket- somewhere to keep money or a passport while traveling where pickpocketing is a concern. I plan to buy at least one more pair before my next trip.
