Comments about Patagonia DAS Parka - Men's:
I wear it every day if it is below freezing. The warmest jacket I own. I also like the weight of the jacket, I can't believe I went so long without it.

Comments about Patagonia DAS Parka - Men's:
This jacket is great for what I use it for. A casual jacket to wear around town and a jacket to wear from the house to work and back that can also be used for outdoor sports. Driving to work and back may not seem like a big deal to a lot of people, but those who live in cold climates, like Alaska and upper mid-west/east coast who don't have a garage or don't want to waste gas with excessive warming-up of vehicles, know what I'm saying. I needed something non-bulky in the winter that provided wind resistance and moderate warmth without being too warm. I wear a sweater underneath if I'm going to be outside for any length of time and it works fine. It's sized a bit bigger to allow for layering, which is a plus. It does create static cling that is slightly annoying, but it's a minimal concern for me.

Super warm and comfortable. Sizing was right on. Been using it in 20 deg, windy weather for a week and have just worn a t-shirt underneath.

Comments about Patagonia DAS Parka - Men's:
This was my first "high-end" synthetic jacket. I have loved it. With its suffability into a small sack that Patagonia provides I take it with me on almost every outing and usually end up using it.
Patagonia calls this "it's warmest insulated jacket" ... well, it keeps me warm when I'm moving, but if you think you're getting a parka to stand around in 20 below, you'll be disappointed. This is a nice, warm jacket with layers under it and if you intend to be active in it. I don't think of it as my sit in the cold jacket.
The sizing is way off. I am 6-2 and 170 and a medium was way too large. The small fits me well. Also, my jacket is now 3 years old and there is a fundamental design flaw in Patagonia's manufacture of this jacket. The waist drawstring is a very rugged cord that acts like a saw on the jacket material. In 18 months of regular use, the cord sawed through the material sheath it was housed in and fell out. Either the drawstring has to be softer or the sheath has to be a more durable material.
Overall, I have really like this jacket, but I will shop around some more for my next one.

Comments about Patagonia DAS Parka - Men's:
Why the heck would some one want such a technical jacket to walk around town in? People need to disregard the first two responses for they are irrelevant. This jacket is a "TECHNICAL" mountaineering jacket, perfect for wet, windy, snow belays on a hill side. Blocks wind extremely well, enlarged hood to fit over helmet, hem cord to seal in heat, light, durable and good looking. Relaxed fix is a bit large, but fits well over layered attire. Perfect jacket for the designated job. Bottom line if you want a t-shirt only jacket to walk around town in save your self the time and look elsewhere, if your looking for a high performance jacket to get the job done, then look no further. Love mine....probably too much.

Comments about Patagonia DAS Parka - Men's:
OK, I think we need to focus on what this jacket is actually meant to do, which is to serve as an insulation boost for sedentary activities in cold weather like belaying. You dress with enough layers to stay warm but not sweat while climbing and then throw the parka and heavy gloves on when you are ready to belay. The DAS is great for allowing you to hang onto the warmth that you accumulated by climbing and staves off the chills while your partner works it out.
I'm not surprised that it isn't sufficient when used alone with a T-shirt in the dead of winter in the Midwest. This scenario has absolutely no bearing on performance in the mountains! When are you ever going to be wearing only a light shirt under a puffy in extreme cold in the alpine? It just doesn't make any sense. The DAS is plenty warm and additional insulation would just make it too heavy.
If you want a warm jacket to use in the city, go with down! It's very warm and very light, so I'm sure you can find a parka that would keep you warm even without layering.
If you want a belay parka that can take a little splatter from not-all-the-way-frozen water ice and still keep you warm for the rest of your trip, go with synthetic, and I would argue that the DAS is as good as any in this category.

Comments about Patagonia DAS Parka - Men's:
Great looking and very warm jacket. Yes, they changed insulation to the thinner, warmer Primaloft One in the last year. After a side by side comparison to the older version, it is quite obvious this is the warmer of the two and it is also much warmer than TNF Optimus Redpoint I own. Keeps me warm wearing just a t-shirt underneath to about -20F, then I add quality base layers. Don't believe the other hype. The Dead Air Space Parka is tops.

Comments about Patagonia DAS Parka - Men's:
Beware! This is product is no longer the same as the DAS Parka that others reviewed in past years. They changed the fill and decreased the amount. There is about 1 inch of loft (I am being generous). I stay warm easily, but this jacket won't keep me warm below the 20's without a lot of layering. This is a comfortable well sewn jacket, but not good for very cold weather.

Comments about Patagonia DAS Parka - Men's:
I bought this for general use in Northern Wisconsin. It's light and comfortable, but not very warm. I thought I could wear it over a casual shirt on the way to work and be warm. The loft is very low - maybe an inch. Any weight in the pockets, and it collapses to less. It keeps me warm with a hat and no layering, to about 25 degrees with no wind. Would be fine for very high activity, but otherwise it's closer to a sweater than a parka. That said, it is very comfortable. The XL fits me very well, but I don't see how it would fit over climbing gear. I'm 6'0" with a long torso. Most patagonia stuff is too short for me. Too bad they don't make tall sizes.
