Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 32" Inseam:

I have nothing but good things to say about these pants. I use them mainly for snowboarding and I love the slim look. The bottoms get over my snowboarding boots easily. They flex and never feel restrictive. The waterproof pockets are great. I've spent some miserable days on the slopes in rain/snow mixes and these keep me dry the whole way. I'm glad I spent the money, and even happier for the 50% off REI brand sale that brought these to me.

I bought these pants for my boyfriend to play disc golf in and to also work in the rain. He raves about how comfortable they are. They are very durable and fit him very well. Every time he wears them, I get a big thank you from him. They are worth every penny. He stays warm and dry in even the wettest Pacific Northwest weather.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 32" Inseam:

I mainly purchased these for winter bike riding and found myself using them for more than that. They work great. The trails around me are out in the open countryside where wind rules. With these I feel the wind but don't feel the cold effects of the wind. After a mile or so I'm all warmed up and need to unzip a bit of the side vents on the legs to keep cool. I often ride my Pugsley (FatBike) so I'm always hitting every muddy, wet slushy field I can, really fun & the Takus keep me dry.

They are the most expensive pair of pants that I have ever bought - and worth it for the service they provide to me :-)

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 32" Inseam:

Got these pants for a variable condition photo expedition to the Olympic coastline. Freezing + rain + humid rainforest + extreme exertion. I had originally planned on wearing these with a polartec baselayer, but quickly found that with all the hiking/climbing I was doing, this shell was all I needed - a baselayer made me too hot, much too fast. That being said, these pants are incredible. Water beads right off, they are tough enough to take kneeling on jagged rocks, windproof, flexible, have waterproof pockets, etc. Miraculously, through all that, they breathe perfectly! And that's before I even discovered the leg vents!

These will be part of any cool-weather or wet-season gear from here on out.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 32" Inseam:

I guide ice climbing, rock climbing, backpacking and snowshoeing year round. Bought these because of the soft shell material, in that past had felt restrained in others. First trip out I LOVED THEM. They were comfortable, warm, flexible, etc. After a few trips I noticed some tearing in the gusseted crotch and some other tears around the ankles. I backcountry ski and ice climb at least once a week so I need a more durable pant. This is great for the snowshoer or mild adventurer but in now way the quality necessary for avid use. All in all I think REI is stepping their game up with their brand, but they still have a ways to go. Because I love the company I still will try their products, even though we have pro deals with marmot, arc'teryx, and others. Keep on pressin!

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 32" Inseam:

I wanted some snow pants for the winter in Alaska and these blew my mind. No, they are not warm or insulated, but they keep out the wind and snow, and that makes a huge difference. They are comfortable and very, very, dry. They have been life-savers this winter, but the best part is that they will work great in spring, summer, and fall.
My only complaint would be that they don't have full-length zippers on the bottoms - that would make putting them on over boots possible.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 32" Inseam:

I second BrklynBykr's review. Under near freezing temperatures, moderate rain, and light winds, water leaked in through the closed fly. It's not fun being cold in that area! Water also leaked in at the bottom of both legs, most likely through the closed leg zippers. At the time, I was also wearing a bombproof jacket (no leaks) that fully covered the tops of the pants. The problem was definitely with the pants and not how I was wearing them.

Thoroughly test these pants in the shower before you rely on them to keep you dry, especially in cold/rainy conditions where you could suffer serious consequences if these pants failed to do their job.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 32" Inseam:

I figured these would be a good shell, I had no idea I would find them such a great primary winter pant. I bought my jean size which worked out well, but ended up with a shorter inseam, which also worked well as they appear to run a little long (at least compared to jeans). Wear them with vents open in 40's and vent closed in 20's with lightweight base layer. The stretch aspect is wonderful, I just love these pants. I would never wear a traditional shell near as much as I wear these and I don't have to think about whether I take them or not, I just plain wear them. While the pockets don't strike me as great handwarming pockets, they are great for keeping energy bars, lighter, and batteries warm and they don't seem awkward in use. My only suggestion for improvement, and it wouldn't keep me from buying them, is to add a little more room in the seat. The stretch works, but I still find the back of the waist being pulled down and exposing the small of my back. I'd rather have a saggy butt than a cold lower back.

I use the pants exclusively for skiing and they are great value. A little tight around the upper leg but the pants stretch 4 ways so it's not uncomfortable. They have a snug fit around ski boots too. Again, a great value!
