Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 30" Inseam:
bought these as a dressy cold weather pant. Went to Big Bear to visit friends, and was taken skiing. My first time, fell a lot, nothing got through. I ended the day as dry as i started, even after sitting in the snow, and the pants looked as good as when i put them on.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 30" Inseam:
These pants fit well are great for attending outdoor games on cold, windy or wet days. Add another layer and you are ready to go skiing or snow shoeing. I had them now for only 2 months and like their all around utility.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 30" Inseam:
I bought these for my son and he helped me pick them out. He uses them for skiing and cold weather hiking in Maine. He's been very pleased with them. They're not a normal pair of ski pants but, rather, a cold, wet weather athletic pants. He's been very happy so far.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 30" Inseam:
I was looking for some pants for walking in the English Lake District in winter, these worked perfectly. On the open top of High Street winds were ~20mph gusting to over 30 with a -9C wind chill and a bit of sideways rain (otherwise known as a normal day in January). These pants were all that they claimed to be, wind proof, waterproof and warm. No leaks around the pockets of wind or rain, plenty of room in the knees and crotch on steep climbs. Very pleased with them.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 30" Inseam:
The fit is the best I have found for this kind of product. Fits like a normal pair of work pants. The side vents are of no use to me. Except the cold feel of the zippers on my legs they are not a real detraction. Well made well though out. I have not worn them on a rainy day, so I can not speak to their worth as a rain shield. I would guess by the way they shed water they are indeed water proof.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 30" Inseam:
I picked these up at the end of last season and tried them yesterday for the first time on a short ski tour. I seldom wear a shell pant for ski touring but these worked well, and would be appropriate for colder or windier days. The thigh ventilation zipper was effective and smooth, seemed to be adequate for the uphill. There is no ventilation at the boot cuffs. The fit and fabric are well done. Waist adjusts well.
The only shortcoming I observed is that the crotch zipper is too short, but no biggy. My other concern with these before use was how the pant cuff secures using the smallish elastic cord. It held up well during the day and I suspect it will do well as long as it doesn't get a ton of use.
I had no problems whatsoever fitting these over my Scarpa T3s. The overall quality is very good and one could easily reinforce the cuffs with a crampon patch if desired. I look forward to getting them wet.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 30" Inseam:
My job requires that I spend a great deal of time outdoors and I never know where I'm going to be one week to the next. These are great to pack along in case I end up out in rain and snow. Also great for kayaking, I've sat in two inches of water for over an hour without getting wet.
I love the fabric, it's extremely durable, waterproof, and breathable. Only complaint there is it's a little loud when walking.
In 20+ mph wind and rain the thigh vents allow water to be blown through. I would rather have a pair of pockets than the thigh vents.
They're also extremely baggy, I could easily fit two sets of fleece under them and I'm not super skinny. Living in Houston I could do without the extra room. They fit more like ski pants. As a reference the endeavor M 30" fit me perfectly.
Overall I'm happy with them, they're the best waterproof pants I've found for my 29" inseam. The fabric and cut don't limit range of motion at all. I think my ideal version would be the endeavor pants in this material.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 30" Inseam:
I learned from my last 2 hikes that waterproof pants, even on a rare dry day in the PNW, is a must if you plan to sit down on anything. The side vents at first seemed like a gimmick but they really helped cool me off while hiking some steep terrain. Then when I stopped near the summit and the wind really kicked up I could close the pants vents and zip up my jacket to stay comfortable

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 30" Inseam:
I love these pants but I had to return them. Now I'm thinking about going to buy them again. Kind of like that person you break up with and then get back together again over and over. These are the things I love about these pants. I'm 5'6", 32 inch waist, and the 30 inch inseam is a tad bit long but over the boots, that is perfect...the fit is great. Lot's of room where you need it in the knees, groin and buttocks area for all that scrambling you do over rocks and logs. The material is also very tough. I was in the Olympic rainforest for 10 miles and 5 hours of rain. My legs were completely dry. The temps were around 45F and little or no wind. I wore a thin underlayer and was very happy with how the body temperature was able to be regulated using the thigh vents. Having said that, I'd much rather just have a less fancy pair of pants that were equally well constructed and of the same materials. No leg vents. I only used them because they were there. I could easily live without them and the weight and stiffness the zippers add far outweigh the benefits of direct venting (for me during hiking). Although water never penetrated the zippers, why add two more places where failure is possible? The velcro waist cinch is okay but I would be so much happier with a little more elastic in the waist and a good old reliable drawcord (the velcro snags on other garments in the wash and literally destroyed my long sleeve underarmor shirt). The most annoying thing about the Taku and the main reason I returned these wonderful pants is that the 3 inch wide gusseted cuffs do NOT fit over your boots. I was this close to taking a pair of scissors to them but alas, it's too big of a financial investment to do that...or is it? hmmmm. Either lose the gussets and give me a lengthier zipper down there or forget about the zipper alltogether because if I can't get them over my boots at all, I'd rather just have a straight leg (no zipper/gusset) cut. That's four zippers and material; you'd lose 25% of the weight right there. Thanks for reading my entire review.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 30" Inseam:
I've used these pants on several snowshoeing excursions and the pants are simply amazing! First off, when I tried them on in the store, I couldn't believe how comfortable they were and they aren't overly bulky at all. I don't like big bulky pants. Another plus is because they fit so well, there is less friction on the material and they will last longer....and you don't have to listen to yourself walk when out!
Don't let the softshell fool you regarding warmth. I've packed long underwear for all of my trips and haven't needed them at all. These pants are so well insulated and breathable that I had absolutely no issues with long hikes in the snow. Luckily, I wear gaiters when out, so the comment left may be valid and would definitely be an added bonus!
They are so comfortable, I kept them on one day after we returned from snowshoeing and even did some grocery shopping in them. I completely forgot that I was wearing them because they were so comfortable.
I would highly recommend that you at least try them on in the store and you'll see exactly what I am talking about.
