Comments about REI Polar Pod +10 Sleeping Bag:
I have used this bag for a few months car camping on the east coast. Temperatures have been down to 15 degrees F during this time, and I was perfectly comfortable at that temperature. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is not the most svelte bag on the market, but it is economically priced and extremely functional in terms of keeping the inhabitnat warm. Also, since it's a synthetic, it does better in wet conditions and with breath condensation.
The only real problem with the bag is that I sleep too soundly when I'm in it and have overslept a few times because I was so comfortable.

Comments about REI Polar Pod +10 Sleeping Bag:
I didn't think I'd like a "mummy bag"; but this bag is very roomy, very warm, and the zipper doesn't snag if both sides are properly aligned. I car camp, so my main concerns were warmth and comfort. I don't care about packed size; and wouldn't recommend this bag for a backpacker. The stuff sack supplied is way too small; as you'd need a hydraulic press to get this bag into it. If you aren't concerned with packed size; then this bag will likely satisfy your needs.

Comments about REI Polar Pod +10 Sleeping Bag:
You need to know before you buy this sleeping bag that it is huge! It packs super large. It is NOT for backpacking whatsoever.
That being said, this is a wonderful sleeping bag! I went car camping with friends last fall. We were expecting rain, but then the temperatures suddenly dropped and it started snowing. The tent collapsed so we slept in the cab of my friend's truck. My friends, who laughed at me when they saw my huge bag, were shivering in their tiny, thin bags. I was actually too hot, and had to open the zipper a little to cool down.
I went camping a 2nd time in my tiny, cheap tent. At night, the condensation was really bad and the head & foot of my sleeping bag got wet. However, the water didn't soak through the bag at all and I stayed dry. I didn't even notice the water until the morning.
I'm a 5'3", 125 lb. female, so the regular sleeping bag was very roomy for me. Along with the REI 2.5" camp bed, I was as comfortable as I am in my bed at home!
For the price, this is a high quality, warm bag, highly recommended for car camping.

Comments about REI Polar Pod +10 Sleeping Bag:
I got this pack at the REI garage sale in San Francisco! It was on sale for [$]! This was the second sleeping bag I have ever owned. This was a pretty funny purchase, because my living style has change so much since I bought this last year. I pack it in my Granite Gear Stratus Access 5500 cu in pack and hitched back to Arcata! Now I realize this bag is not for me as I travel, but if or when I have a car this bag would be great! it's durable and super warm! I use it in the winter now as a comforter!Cheers! Keep Trekking!

First time buying down bag--and I am wondering why it took so long!

Comments about REI Polar Pod +10 Sleeping Bag:
I was excited to order this bag for myself, but was sorely disappointed. Compared to my husband's Marmot bag and even my kid's Slumberjack bags, this bag lacked in construction...not typical of the REI brand in my experience. The nylon material was thin and flimsy compared to our other bags and the stitching was poor. The fill showed at the seams and I was worried repeat use would cause the stitching to tear the nylon. I returned this bag and will order a Marmot bag instead.

Comments about REI Polar Pod +10 Sleeping Bag:
I haven't done any serious backpacking or winter camping in years, and I needed a bag to tent out while many friends were in cabins. This was absolutely the perfect purchase.
Yes, it's bulky. It's also probably too heavy to backpack with, but for car camping it was great.
I was looking for a good winter solution without paying through the nose for a lower weight I don't care about. With a bag liner this is especially comfortable and will certainly keep you warm. My favorite part of the sturdy construction is the draft tube along the zipper, which keeps you warm even if you're moving around in the bag while you sleep.

Comments about REI Polar Pod +10 Sleeping Bag:
This bag is extremely comfortable. It's soft and fits your body like a glove. I used this for cold camping in New England with temps dropping into the upper 20's and this bag held up very well. I'm sure that it can handle the 10-12 degrees Fahrenheit as indicated by the manufacturer and EN ratings.
The reason I gave it 4 stars is because it does pack large. But for what I use it for it's perfect. I pack a large tote with my Camp Dome 2 and REI Camp Bed 3.5 sleeping pad. The three make an excellent combo for a soloist. Anyone familiar with those products can tell I value I comfort over compact.

Comments about REI Polar Pod +10 Sleeping Bag:
This bag is great. Yes, it is a little large, you will always trade size for comfort. But if you get a compression stuff sack it will fit in most backpacks. I had this bag in the Blue Ridge Mountains and Western Maryland Mountains for back country camping trips and it worked great. I also winter camped with this bag and it got down the -5 one night and I didn't freeze. I wouldn't use it in summer as it is a little warm. But in freezing to moderately cold temperatures this bag is great, even in the back-country were ounces equal pounds. Perfect for car camping as well. And for the price its a really good deal.

Comments about REI Polar Pod +10 Sleeping Bag:
I ordered this bag on sale thinking it was a great steal. The other reviews were right. The bag is just too darn big and doesn't compress easily. It's warm and cozy, but I have a large pack, and it simply takes up too much room. So much that I would not be able to pack the rest of my gear in my 60 L pack when I go out trekking for 5-9 days. Such a disappointment. If you have a big pack, and you only plan to trek for a day or two, this bag is fine. If you need space for a 5-9 day trek, you're going to want to pass on this bag.
