Comments about Aire Tomcat Solo Inflatable Kayak:

Got this to take the kids down II's and easy III's. Not too bad with paddler (235 lbs) and passenger (45 lbs). A little sluggish, but that's the trade-off for stability and price. If you have basic WW paddling skills, you can hit eddies, ferry, and front and side surf with an exaggerated lean. Get thigh straps!

    • Whitewater up to class IV

Comments about Aire Tomcat Solo Inflatable Kayak:

I've owned two of these for years now. I have taken them on many Oregon rivers including Deschutes, Rogue, White Salmon, Clackamas, Mckenzie, Cal Salmon and more. They are a very capable boat in waters up to class IV and are a good stable kayak for beginners to learn in. They are a little heavy but they are tough as nails. I put mine through a ton of abuse and have never had to do any repairs. Don't waste your money on lesser boats like Sevylors, Sea Eagles, Advanced Elements etc. There are nicer kayaks but they cost twice as much. These are the best all around value and unless you are dropping 20 foot waterfalls and surfing huge class V waves, they will handle anything you can throw at them!

Comments about Aire Tomcat Solo Inflatable Kayak:

I own two of these and they have served me well. Pretty tough (I have yet to have to repair one) and they are nice and stable for newbies I take down whitewater. I prefer my NRS Bandits as they are lighter and easier to surf, but especially if you get these at 20% off, they are a good deal, especially if you are just starting. My only real complaint is the proprietary valves they have which require their adapter. Don't know why they don't use standard leafield valves, but you can work around it.

Comments about Aire Tomcat Solo Inflatable Kayak:

You can find better for less money.

The Tomcat is stable, but that's about the only plus to this boat.

Tracking is awful. Expect a lot of wasted energy when you paddle this boat.

It's also heavier than most. If your take-out or put-in require a hike, expect to do some extra work.

If you're on a budget, get the Sea Eagle instead. They have better performance at a lower price.

If budget doesn't matter, I highly recommend the NRS Maverik. It's lighter, stronger and tracks and performs much better than the Tomcat.
