Comments about Saris T-Bones 3-Bike Hitch Rack:

Noticed all the bad reviews and had to speak up. I've got a hatchback and take my bike to some of the singletrack trails in the Northern VA area, as well as my hybrid out on the W&OD, so needed something to carry the bikes, but didn't want something always hanging on the back of my car. This is awesome, seems stable enough; there's a little, very tiny amount of sway/bounce, but nothing I'd be alarmed about. My set came with a bolted pin and pin lock which I find keep it much more stable than using a standard pin. If you try with a standard pin you'll def get more sway and bounce (I tried that for awhile). So, get the Saris bolt pin and lock.

It is awkward the first few times you take this thing on and off, but you get used to it and storage is a breeze. I don't really use the stand all that much, since I have a garage, but I've tried it out a few times and seems sturdy to me.

Someone noted the straps can scratch your paint, which is true if you're not paying attn; its when you load the bike, getting it over the other solid plastic straps, rather than when you're driving. That said, it scratched my mountain bike which has taken it's share of spills so I dont really care.

For anyone who doesn't want a big hitch bike rack on the back all the time, this is the answer. I did notice that Saris doesn't make it anymore: not sure if that's from complaints or low sales, but I use this almost every week and have had zero problems and would buy it again.

Comments about Saris T-Bones 3-Bike Hitch Rack:

I tried this out after having quality problems with a Helium rack. The floorstand broke after a couple of uses, so deemed worthless. I really didn't like how the connection at the hitch was not adjustable like the Helium. I had to go out and buy a hitch clamp to better keep the rack from bobbing up and down severely on bumps. That was anotehr $30. Also, the plastic ties are not adjustable and have been scratching the paint off my bike. Poor design.

Comments about Saris T-Bones 3-Bike Hitch Rack:

Sounds like a great idea, right? I recently moved into a small apartment and no longer have a garage to work in, so the idea of combining a bike rack and stand was an awesome idea. But, sometimes awesome ideas aren't realistic.... this is super light, but its major connections are plastic, which boggles my mind. That may keep it light, but doesn't provide very good fit or durability. The stand itself with a small plastic base was not good. I put two bikes on it, and it severely leaned and almost fell over (granted one was my heavy REI touring bike, but still!)And worst of all, I didn't even feel confident with the rack supporting my bike on the car! For my 1 1/4" hitch it was severely loose and couldn't get tightened down so the rack moved all over the place.Overall, good idea, but not the quality you would expect for [$]! My advice, go get the Thule Helium. It is their lightest model, holds three bikes, and is solid. Rather than the rack being loose on my car, I could literally shake my entire car by holding onto the Thule Helium - it has a nice locking component that will guarantee tightness on any hitch.Besides being rock-solid, the Thule Helium can also bend down to allow tailgate access. Something the Saris doesn't have and I didn't think would be too bad, but that is really a super convenient feature that you'll want if you have a hatchback or anything!
