The carafe part is fine especially for camping where I don't want glass, but the plastic press part disintegrated and there are no replacement parts. REI will replace the whole item for me, but I don't want that because I am sure the press part will break again. Buy a thermal french press with all metal parts.

This was great for about a year, although it is not really what I would call insulated, but then the plastic piece that holds the screen for the press totally disintegrated and broke into a number of pieces. When I went to the REI reviews I saw that there were 5 reviews ahead of me that had the same thing happen. There apparently is no replacement part to be had. So it's back to my trustee (though breakable) glass Bodum.

I bought this to replace a glass press that cracked (making huge mess in my kitchen). This press worked great for about nine moths, then the plastic holding the screen on broke, rendering the press useless. Don't waste your money, go directly to a more expensive stainless steel press.

We bought this press for a family camping trip and loved it so much that when our percolator broke, we replaced it with this. However, this was not made for daily use. We soon found that coffee made with this press is hot for about an hour and a half max. You'll find grinds in your coffee if the filter doesn't slide down straight from the beginning. We also had the problem with a cracked plastic ring. When we stopped by the store today, the salesperson informed us that there was no replacement part for the carafe. We're surprised that REI wouldn't sell simple replacement parts for more long-term use. It seems really wasteful to have to buy another carafe for a small cracked piece!

Have purchased two of these. The first one lasted a couple of years with almost daily use, then the plastic part of the screen that screws on to the post broke. Thought it was reasonable for the amount of use we got out of it. Since REI doesn't carry replacement screens, we bought another carafe, but it was poorly made and leaked when you poured the coffee. Fortunately, I had kept the old carafe as a back-up but within six months the plastic part of the new screen has yet again disintigrated. Wish REI would get a clue (based on multiple complaints!) and start carrying replacement screens for this product!
