Comments about Yakima SkyBox Pro 18 Roof Box:
The product is great. Provides a lot of storage. It is just hard to load due to the height of the SUV.

Comments about Yakima SkyBox Pro 18 Roof Box:
I've never owned or used a rigid car-top cargo carrier before. I chose this particular model as it is (just) long enough to fit my XC skis. After 3 uses I'm pleased with its accessability and overall performance & design. I like that you cannot remove the key while its open or not locked making it kind of 'idiot proof'. I use it on my Ford Escape factory crossbars which are quite narrow but after some fiddling got it clamped down solidly. Can't judge the durability yet but I paid the premium for the titanium paint that should protect better against UV degredation but the truth is, I really like the color and probably would have gotten it anyway.
Comments about Yakima SkyBox Pro 18 Roof Box:
This lasted me just over one season. During the second, the handle on one side stopped working and was permanently stuck in the closed position. Not too big of a deal, still opened from the other side I suppose.. Until the other handle stopped working. That's when I discovered the exceptional security this box offers. Without the ability to open it, the only way in is with a saw. Thank goodness complete failure occurred on the way home!Don't buy this and if you already did leave a lot of room in it when packing and handle with extreme care.Gonna give the competition a shot before giving up on a box altogether. First look suggests a much nicer handle/lock/latch design. Just waiting to find another [$] after already spending it just over a year ago.

Comments about Yakima SkyBox Pro 18 Roof Box:
I've had 3 of these boxes, the last had some improvements which now make it even better. Excellent mid-size (18) box fits a ton of stuff and while occasionally a drag on windy days, is most times not noticeable. One needs to pay attention to the latching mechanism. It cannot be lightweight AND bombproof so you can't reef hard on the handles if they don't seem to latch. All the failures of this box have and will come from pilot-error. It WILL attach securely to your roof racks IF you put it on snugly and properly. Love it!

Comments about Yakima SkyBox Pro 18 Roof Box:
I've used Yakima products for years and have nothing but good to say untill now. On my second use, going 65mph I caught a side wind gust that somehow disengaged the lock and it opened up. Luckily there were no casulties or other damage and I was able to retrieve my stuff. With the web that is included with the rack I was able to limp into a town and secure the Skybox with duct tape and rope. I can never trust another one. It was securly locked when I began the trip.
I'd give this zero stars but that is not an option.

Comments about Yakima SkyBox Pro 18 Roof Box:
Used this for extra storage on a mid sized SUV to drive cross country. Snaps and locks easily, and love that you can open from either side. Latch feels like it could easily break if you apply too much pressure when pressing down to open the box so I'm a little cautious about that. Hardly felt it even in some windy parts of the drive. Primarily drove at 70mph since box was filled to the max, but even when passing truckers on the interstate, the drive was super steady and we could hardly feel or hear the box on the roof. It stays on very well. Didn't notice much increase in gas consumption either. The aerodynamic shape makes a difference. It holds quite a bit of cargo since it's wide and will be great for throwing dirty equipment during the camping season, and for skis in the winter. Need to have decent space to store in the garage though, but well worth it when you need it. Was very easy to install with no tools needed, just some good tall friends to help out.
