Comments about Klean Kanteen Kolor Stainless-Steel Water Bottle with Loop-Top Cap - 40 fl. oz.:
I love that this is so big! There is no after-taste and it is easy to make sure I drink enough water. Unfortunately, it is REALLY hard to carry! The hole in the lid is so small and my finger barely fits. As such, it has slipped off and, consequently, dented and no longer sits well on flat surfaces. Additionally, one of the lids (I bought two) unscrews if you hold it in your hand and swing your hand. Frustrating and makes a mess!!!! I would recommend, but with all of the bad AND the good.

I bought this in orange and that was my mistake. Instead of getting the stainless steal I puchased a orange painted bottle and it chipped a lot. Not that this is a big issue but I would pull it out of my bag and have orage paint chips all over. If you get a Keen get a stainless steel bottle.

Another reviewer complained about the stainless steel being magnetic. This is not a problem. There are lots of different grades of stainless, 18/8 is food grade stainless and is called so because it is 18% chromium and 8% nickel (used in cookware, etc). These bottles are sometimes magnetic due to the cold forging process used to shape them, the pressure causes the magnetism, it doesn't indicate anything is wrong or other materials are present. This stainless is a lot thicker than other bottles I have seen, which makes it stronger.
This is a great bottle, perfect size. I'm not sure I would want to backpack long distances due to the weight, but it's great for day to day use. Water stays colder in it, doesn't get that plastic taste if it does happen to get warm. I have had a few "unbreakable" plastic jugs, which would always break if they landed on the lid. This guy has been dropped a few times (full), just as good as new other than minor dents.
Recommended!

Comments about Klean Kanteen Kolor Stainless-Steel Water Bottle with Loop-Top Cap - 40 fl. oz.:
I just don't like the taste of water out of hydration packs and I wanted a bottle that was durable and spacious. I bought two of these bottles and love them. One I carry in a side pocket of my pack. The other is a backup. It doesn't leak. The water tastes like water (which is nothing). I think it retains the cold temperature longer, but I don't have data to prove that.
Someone mentioned that the bottle was magnetic, indicating that the steal was not what was advertised. I would disagree, since my bottle is not magnetic.

The size is great...I have smaller Kanteens that I love. This was great for my long commute, outdoor activities, etc. I haven't had my 40oz that long (7 months) but I just noticed that its got this brownish bumpy corrosion inside. Gross! I hope this is just a fluke...perhaps with the lining? Make sure u take a peak in your Kanteen to ensure there is no corrosion. I would have loved this bottle if it didn't corrode. It's got to be returned to REI.

For being the bigger bottle, it fit perfectly in my backpack side pouch on my 4 day trip.

I boaght this product to take with me on camping, hiking and backpacking trips. I must say, that I'm not a fan of this product. Sure, it's trendy, everyone has one, and it's pretty durable - but it will never replace my Nalgene.
There are too many negatives to this bottle. For starters, it's very heavy and very expensive. Also, the lid does not attach to the bottle which can be easily misplaced in a campsite or the lid can be dropped on the ground. There is a loop, so if you want to invest more money in a carabiner to attach it to something you can, but the Nagene bottle has a better built in system. Also, you cannot see how much liquid is left in the container and it isn't graduated so it won't double as a measuring device. In addition, Steel does not insulate as well as plastic.
The only plus is that because it is stainless steel, in a survival situation it can be used to boil water. Other than that, I am not happy with this product. I'm going to replace my 10 year old plastic Nalgene with a new BPA free Nalgene bottle.
Don't waste your money by going with the Stainless steel fad. Nalgene is a much better product at half the price.

Metal aftertaste went away (permanently) after a good scrubbing with soap and a dish brush. Used mostly for everyday carry. A little too heavy for backpacking if weight is a large concern. Probably not the best option of cold weather use. My older model came with a stainless steel cap which as awesome but would occasionally cross-thread or have other issues. The cap would freely spin and would not un-thread so that bottle could be opened. It is very difficult to open the bottle when this happens. This is probably not an issue with the plastic cap!
My bottle dented from a fall of about 2ft onto carpet covered concrete. I wouldn't really consider the bottle durable but the dents to do not really effect the function at all.
Logo was easy to take off with light sandpaper or steel wool. Get the brushed stainless steel version as it can be stuck into the fire to be heated while the colored versions might get damaged.
While I liked this bottle and used it for almost a year I'm going to exchange the bottle for the new klean kanteen wide mouth bottle in the same size in efforts to avoid the cross-threading problem that the normal mouthed bottle has.

There is no taste of plastic or metal. However, when you unscrew the cap to drink, you touch the mouth piece contaminating it.

This is the best water bottle I've tried. I've tried most every type out there. It is a bit heavy but that's a minor drawback. I typically carry two of these 40oz bottles in my Flash 65 pack's side mesh pockets. No aftertaste at all, just clean water the way it should be. I have the smaller 27oz bottle as well that I use at work.
