Comments about Kokatat Nomad Paddling Boots:

No local REI stores carried them but the Sacramento store shipped them to me for free, quickly. Well done REI!

I got the boots and both were marked '10' but one was one or two sizes bigger.

I called Kokotat and was told this was impossible. I shipped them the boots, and told them that even the smallest boot was too big. DON'T SEND ME TWO OF THEM.
They agreed they were different sizes then shipped me 2 boots the same size AND still too big. The customer service person said they were 10's, ignoring what I told him twice- even the smallest is too big.

I shipped them back but have not heard from them. Over a month after I payed for them I still don't have the boots, and Kokotat is not responsive.

The boots will be great for keeping my feet dry when kayaking, but who knows if I will ever get them...

Comments about Kokatat Nomad Paddling Boots:

I use this boot when paddling in the winter. I wear a dry suit with booties made into it and these boots are a little tight going over the booty to start with but after they're on, it is comfortable. Only time I have gotten water in them is when I turned over and the top bungee wasn't tight enough and the boot filled, but with the dry suit booty it didn't matter. Perfect for launching and landing. Had trouble ordering this item from REI becuase they were not in stock and it was a long wait to get them so called company and bought them direct.

Comments about Kokatat Nomad Paddling Boots:

I planned on using these boots kayaking. Hoped to be able to get in and out of a kayak in relatively shallow water, up to my knees, and keep my feet dry and warm. I kayak all year round on Puget Sound and Washington lakes. A huge disappointment. I thought these boots would be ideal. I couldn't even begin to get them on even though I bought a size larger than I usually wear and without any socks. Much, mush too tight in the instep. I don't know of an alternate either.

      Service and delivery comments:

Very prompt delivery, I was amazed, and in excellent condition.

Comments about Kokatat Nomad Paddling Boots:

I bought this for landing a striper at the Martha's Vineyard Striper Bass Derby Oct 6-11, 2011, Fly Fishing Division on Surf. It replaced packing my bulky Waders. I had to walk considerable distance in them on the sandy beach -- very comfortable. Not so much on the short pavement to the beach. I had water slightly deeper than the boots t one point, but no water entering the boot -- excellent seal.

I think they are great. The fit was excellent with meridian wool upper calf socks. Boot was size 12. I take 11 - to 11.5 shoe, but the socks fit was perfect. I had no trouble taking them off. I do have a high in-step that may the difference. This is going to be great this Spring in Michigan for Steelheads from the bank, leaving waders behind.

Comments about Kokatat Nomad Paddling Boots:

I tested these over a two week kayak trip in Iceland and Greenland. I found the little bungy ties provided far too little support when combined with the flexible neoprene uppers. They were hard to pull on over dry suit booties and, when thoroughly wetted by my persperation, retained the water in the rather-porous neoprene inner layer.

They are "true to size" or even large, which meant mine were too large because I bought up one size, thinking this was appropriate to make room for two pairs of socks plus the drysuit Goretex booties.

The weak bungies dangling between my feet was my biggest complaint. They did not do the job and were a trip hazard, requiring me to tie them up in a fancy knot each time, then untie prior to the next use.

Despite my clicking "would not recommend", I would indeed recommend them for day-use without dry suit booties and with full awareness of the issues. I will find a velcro solution to the bungy problem and use them for winter Bay-area kayak trips.

For my Greenland trip, my trusty old rubber boots would have worked better.

Comments about Kokatat Nomad Paddling Boots:

I was on a quest for a long while before finding these boots, the best kayaking boot on the market. The sizing is a bit large. I had to go down one size to get the proper fit (from a 10 to a 9). I often paddle a very low volume / low deck kayak but these fit very well in the kayak. The soles are firm enough to offer excellent protection from the stones beneath my feet while carrying a heavy load. The extended gator is comfortable, completely waterproof, and compresses nicely when stowed. The traction is excellent and serves well in short, water-side hikes. Strongly recommended.

Comments about Kokatat Nomad Paddling Boots:

I am very pleased with these boots. I have been looking for true "waterProof" boots for some time. I was in cold lake water today launching my kayak and also exploring a remote water fall. My feet stayed dry and warm! I also had on a pair of wool socks. Not sure I needed them though. I think next outing I will try them with no socks.
REI is my favorite source for outdoor equipment. They have the best, and stand behind the products they sell.
