Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Lightweight Cot - Special Buy:
Bought this cot 1 year ago and have used it 6 times. No problems at all. I find it sturdy and it works well in my 3 man tent. If you plan on assemblying it in the tent make sure the tent is at least 90 inches long or you will have problems turning it over after you have installed the legs. Yes, it can be tough for some to assemble. The legs require a little muscle but once you get use to it it's not that difficult. When I add my thermarest air pad and sleeping bag it is like my own mattress at home. My bad back appreciates it very much!!

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Lightweight Cot - Special Buy:
I bought one about 1 year ago for my son for when we travel. His sisters usually hog the beds/sleeper sofa and he ended up on pad on floor. This got him "his bed" as he calls it. much better made than a similar sling bed with lighter poles (friend's daughter broke that one on first night of use). Great for trips or when kids sleep over. Also, supported me (250lbs) very well. Set-up not bad compared to military cots (set up more than most will in a lifetime), though not as supportive, very good for style and size. If you have bad knees, you'll earn your way on and off, but otherwise I had a good night's sleep when I tested it. I would heartly recommend it to any parent that does frequent travel with a munchkin or more. All good cots take some strength to set up or they will break on you, so look at the bright side - you get to work out while you work. And if that bothers you, why are you dealing with the out of doors and the purveyors of such goods - stay in a motel;-)

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Lightweight Cot - Special Buy:
I bought 2 of these and used them for my kids while camping. It's fairly compact when folded and feels strong when put together. The only challenge I saw with the product is putting it together. It requires some strength to fit supporting legs into the matching holes of the metal rails that hold the body of the cot. But once its done it feels sturdy. I am an average weight and have tried the cot myself and it seems comfortable enough and does not sink much to the ground.

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Lightweight Cot - Special Buy:
I was cautious because of the reviews but found it really easy to assemble (without instructions, out of the box), compact, sturdy and comfortable. I'm buying another one for my wife.
I like the height because I use a low-profile back-packing tent. I was happily surprised to find the slight "spring" in the combo leg/cross-support design made assembly easier and provided a firm but not rigid sleeping surface for my 200 lb frame. Brilliant!
FYI: Each of the 4 leg inserts are sturdy, light metal "W" with some spring. Each end of the w inserts in opposing (very sturdy) side rails providing 2 feet each (8 total) and great cross support.
TO ASSEMBLE: insert the rails in the channels and pull taut over each end. Lift one side leaving the other on the ground. Insert one end of a W into a hole in the bottom rail. Align the other end of the W with the opposite hole in the upper rail and compress the W slightly... it will pop right in. Repeat 3 times. Instant bed.

It takes a long time to set-up, it not easy to set-up and it is flimsy. Pay more money and get a better one!

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Lightweight Cot - Special Buy:
Been thinking of moving up off the ground to a cot while car camping so we bought one of these because of the price and storage size, and set it up at home. It did require a little muscle to get the legs inserted into the lateral rails. Once up and with me in it (180 lbs, 6 feet)I wanted more support. I felt like it was a little flimsy and that I was sinking down in it. There was not enough support for me to sleep on it for several nights in a row. We returned it (thank you REI for your return policy, that's why we buy all our outdoor stuff from you) and bought a Roll A Cot. Though twice the price this is a fine bed to sleep on.

I bought two of these special buys + additional off for my 2 kids. They are like the 2 I already own that me & my husband use for camping (Byer Allagash cots). First time set up is difficult but gets easier each time. Very comfortable, sturdy, has a bounce to it for added comfort. I will be buying sleeping pads to place on top for camping in cold weather. Good buy!

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Lightweight Cot - Special Buy:
I have used this cot for several car camping trips now and it works great.
I tend not to sleep much when camping, I just relax & snooze a little.
With this cot I sleep good enough that I snored the first time & woke myself up...only issue I have is it's to low to the ground to store your pack under...other then that, great cot for the money.
