The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

I have been using this axe for 7 years and have been on Mt. Rainier, and many Colorado 14ers. This axe saved my life while climbing Little Bear Peak when I self arrested in the hourglass couloir on ice. I have had to actually self arrest 5 times in my life and this axe has performed great each time.

This was really my first year of mountaineering. I did a lot of learning with this axe through trial and error, being taught by folks that know their stuff, and by trying to practice and learn myself. I'm pretty sure I put this axe through the ringer, and it came out with flying colors. It's light, comfortable in my hands, swings well, and arrested me when I needed arresting. I have no complaints. I'll be happy to use it next year too.

it's basic, good enough for Mt. Rainier last week. wanted to take a cheaper, lighter axe and it did the job well. summitted and the long, straight shaft was perfect for plunges in the snow on the decent.

Great for walking not climbing use on snow banks and any gradual accents. Works for self arresting. The leash is a definite must have with item. It is very sharp so for travel and packing should have something over all three ends of axe.

So far the only place I've used the axe is on Mt. Hood in Oregon. Performed well.
I love the head on this axe. It probably has the most comfortable hold of any axe out there. It has great balance as well. All around Black Diamond made a very ergonomic axe. If I ever lost it I'd definitally buy another.

Great axe, used it for general mntring in the ADK and NH Whites, ligth easy to carry when not in use. Does the job. Never had to use it for a real self arrest, but have practiced with it and it was strong and stable.
