Comments about Sea to Summit Head Net:
When you hike down a trail looking like Pigpen from Peanuts - but it's a swarm of bugs around your head, not a cloud of dirt - you will thank your lucky stars that you packed this bug net. My hubby and I have used these nets on multiple trips, snagged on many a branch while bushwhacking with no tears, super light and easy to use. Use it with a hat the has a bill/brim to keep it off of your face. Buy it - you won't be sorry.

Comments about Sea to Summit Head Net:
This is a lifesaver that I would never leave home without during the bug season. I leave it (in it's small pouch) attached to the outside of my pack with a small 'biner to make sure I don't forget it, and for easy access when needed. I prefer the adjustable draw cord for the neck area versus the elastic only on other models.
BUY IT :-)

Comments about Sea to Summit Head Net:
This thing saved my life in the Boundary Waters three years ago! The mosquitoes up there are as big as birds when the sun goes down! But seriously, this is a great purchase. The drawstring is great and its nice that it comes with its own stuff sack. Although I think the stuff sack could even be made a little smaller. It has a little bit of a smell, almost like insect repellent, but its not bad. There is practically no weight to this thing which gives it a permanent spot on my camping trips!I bought this three years ago so I really don't remember if it was the [$] or the [$] version...

Comments about Sea to Summit Head Net:
Mosquitoes are rampant this year in NW MT due to high snow/water volumes. The net is wonderful - hat helps to hold it away from face, drawstring neck much easier to use than tighter elastic. Sitting around the campfire & hiking is a joy with it on - vs. battling the nasty bugs!

Comments about Sea to Summit Head Net:
Having these at Wonder Lake in Denali was an outing-saver. Very fashionable with the other visitors there. Some dimming of brightness, but not a problem compared to the mosquitos.

Comments about Sea to Summit Head Net:
I encountered several through hikers that were using these on the AT while I was being feasted upon by insects. Some of them had tried other brands before finally settling on these. They told me that the honeycombed shaped holes are so easy on the eyes that you forget you have the net on. They were right; I tried to shove a spoonfull of food into my mouth while wearing one. I bought mine in April 2009 and will never hike or fish in bug season without it. It's so compact and it only weighs about an ounce. I wear a Tilley style hat with a full brim to keep the net from laying against my skin so insects can't bite me through the screen holes. It's a little warm in hot weather but not bad. I spend a lot of time in buggy places and I use it all the time. I don't miss the days of putting on insect repellent one bit. I left mine with a friend in Alaska who just had to have one and ordered 4 more for myself and friends. They make great gifts.

Comments about Sea to Summit Head Net:
My wife and I backpacked part of the North Country trail in Minnesota over the July 4th weekend. We ran into hordes of deer flies and mosquitos only a few yards into the start of the trail. We had used 100% Deet spray even on our face and neck areas but the only salvation of not going crazy from the swarms or going back home was to use the head nets. They were the salvation of our trip. They worked great, with no problems. After using them for the three days my wife said we would always carry them just in case we ever run into bugs like that out on the trail again. The nets did not affect our sight and were really not that hot to wear. Yes you do need a wide brimmed hat to keep the netting away from your face, but other than that it offered great protection at an affordable price. Plus they are very lightweight to carry.

Comments about Sea to Summit Head Net:
This head net fits over my fairly wide-brimmed hat and then it just brushes my shoulders. Without a hat with a brim the fabric would lay right on your skin and the bugs would just bite right through it!
It is effective against mosquitoes but I bought it to keep the cedar gnats away which can actually fit through the mesh unfortunately. It would be nice if REI could provide some measurement of mesh density in the product specs. The good news is that a coarser mesh allows more of the breeze through (as well as the gnats!).

Comments about Sea to Summit Head Net:
I did a two day solo in Southern Yosemite, last July. Nine miles straight of Mosquito Hell. I put the net on over my cap and life was tolerable. Seriously, I would have been forced to turn around with out it. I sprayed 100% Deet everywhere and melted my sunglasses and my watch, but not my head net. Snagged it in the bushes and not a pile or a pull. Light, tiny, durable, Deet proof and indespensible when needed. That buzzing noise was ringing in my ears for days...
