Comments about ASICS 55 Shorts - Men's:

Fabric is airy and smooth, cut was good for running. For me the open top elasticized pockets were oddly shaped, unsecured and too small. the one zip pocket is good, but too small to secure all valuable I might want to lug on an athletic endeavor. Probably the pockets great for holding running gels but forget about safely carrying a full sized wallet and smartphone if you're going to move your body such that your upper hips do not remain strictly vertical. I feel a bit misled by previous reviewers. Happy they liked them but they're not for me or, I suspect, anyone who's not a competitive runner. Returned as I have no use for such specialized shorts. More general purpose shorts such as REI OXT and Fleet models allow me to run easily AND carry items to engage in other activities.

REI should present better photos of the pockets on these.

Bought a pair of these at the 2009 NY Marathon Expo, I have used them hundreds of times and they still look new. [...]Amazing hip pockets hold phones keys whatever if you wear them daily. While running perfect for carb pacs.Durability of these shorts is amazing. You will not find a better running short.

I stumbled upon these shorts while looking for both shorts and a running belt for the Marine Corp Marathon. The 5 pockets on these shorts are simply awesome. I carried gels, a small pill bottle, and an 8oz water bottle (from a Fuel belt) and barely noticed I was carrying anything. They pockets are stretchy so they're easy to get into, and their so well positioned on the body. There's no bounce at all.
When I adventure race I carry a pack and rely on lots of hydration, calories and electrolyte pills. Since I'm used to carrying my own I was nervous about relying on aid stations during the long race, but also didn't want to carry a pack for a marathon. Plus I hate belts because they bounce, but figured I'd have to deal with it. These shorts are amazing, and now I'm not buying a belt. Sweet.
