        Comments about Shimano Deore LX M581 Chainring 104mm - 36 Teeth:

        If you have a Shimano Hollowtech and Octalink crank, which require longer tabs then I am sure this a great chainring. If you have an older Shimano crank like me (LX from the the 90's), then get a different Shimano chainring.

        Service and delivery comments:

        The chain ring is incorrectly described on the the REI website. It says it fits most Shimano cranks, which is not true. It did not fit my older generation LX cranks and upon additional research if found it is intended for Shimano Hollowtech and Octalink cranks, which require longer tabs and thus the chainring is not interchangeable with other Shimano cranks.

        REI of course exchanged it for the correct chainring, but would have rather gone Mnt biking today instead of returning the wrong chain ring.
