Comments about Hi-Tec V-Lite Recon eVent Mid Trail Hiking Shoes - Men's - '08 Closeout:
I use these shoes for every-day life. I bought them because they claim to be waterproof as well as a hiking shoe. I do alot of hiking - most every weekend we'll do about 10 miles or so.
Within 2 weeks these shoes were no longer waterproof. Even morning moisture in the grass was soaking through these shoes immediately.
Within 3 months these shoes have 3 or 4 major holes in each shoe. I don't abuse them. I wore a pair of Asic tennis shoes that I absolutely ABUSED and they lasted for a year hiking in loose lava scree and having welding slag dropped on them. You'd think a hiking shoe would out-do them in durability - but not these. 3 months of city life and they're done!
I'll NEVER buy another HI-Tec product.

I hiked in these a few times. Easy to break into. I hike in the Pacific NW so it is very wet and the only CON is the traction. Everything else is great.

I have only had these a month or so but have made a point to wear them as often as possible. Great weather proofing with the eVent. Do not feel overly warm. They are comfortable although feel a tad on the narrow side ( admittedly I have a fairly wide foot and like a roomy toebox). Traction is so so...not great but not terrible. They are fairly lightweight and provide decent support for a mid height shoe. [...]. For a casual trail shoe they are great. Durability to be determined but nothing has come up so far.

I got these boots because they were on-sale for ~$50 and I've had good experiences with High-Tech before. They look fine, lace-up well and stay tight, and are most importantly comfortable on my many hikes. However after owning them for ~5 months and doing 75-100 miles of hiking, they are starting to wear (rubber toe ends are ripping, the lacing on the sides is peeling, etc). It's mostly cosmetic right now, but the wear is accelerating. I haven't noticed any problem with traction that other reviewers have. If you're just doing light day-hiking, they're worth <=$50 and should last a while, but significant use on rocky, unmaintained trails is probably too much for them.

I have put close to 200 miles on these - with 80 carrying a 50 lb pack on the co trail...and these have held up just fine...i waterproofed them again and it worked pretty good (no boot will completely keep your feet dry in an all out rain storm).

I have bought 2 pairs of these shoes. 1 is what I wear everyday and the other pair is for when these wear out. I have planters foot and my feet feel great now. No problems. I wear these everyday.
Waterproofing wears out after heavy use

Lacing system fell apart before I had a chance to take a single step in these. Poor quality.
