This Big Agnes mummy pad blends I-beam construction, PrimaLoft® Eco insulation and a foam core to create an awesomely comfortable sleeping surface.

  • Made from a rugged 70-denier ripstop nylon, this deluxe inflatable pad is small, light and durable enough for backpacking
  • High-density foam insulation is layered with PrimaLoft Eco, a synthetic downlike insulation for superior warmth and comfort
  • Open cell foam on the bottom of the pad self inflates; the remaining volume in the air chambers requires inflation
  • I-beam construction eliminates welded seams to reduce cold spots; ensures quick inflation/deflation, consistent airflow and stability

      This sleeping pad rocks. Very comfortable. But very lightweight and compact. Note - this is not really self inflating at all. But it's incredibly compact, and very easy to manually inflate.

        Good things about this pad:

        -with the big agnes sleeping bag, you can't slip off! so you stay off the cold ground and on your pad. also, you don't slip downhill, or into your tent mate.

        - comfortable! i don't touch the ground anymore, because this pad lifts me about 3 or 4 inches off the ground! I My arms used to fall asleep on my self inflating mattress, and not anymore with BA.

        -- warm! it really insulates you from the ground because it lifts you off it.

        -- best nights of backcountry sleep i've ever had, after 6 years of sleeping in the mountains, I wake fully rested. I don't wake up in the night any more!

        Not so great things:

        --It doesn't claim to be self inflating at all, because it's not. It takes about 26 full lungfulls to inflate, or a few full minutes of heavy blowing. However, it's worth the extra few minutes for a full 8 hours of great sleep.

        --The top layer of mine started getting holes after about 6 months or 100 nights of use (I work a lot in the backcountry.) Mini holes were popping up everywhere! Not sure if I abraided it on a rough surface of if it started wearing out from lots of rerolling. No worries, I returned it to REI for a new one :)

          This is the most comfortable night's sleep you can have in the backcountry short of a hammock. I would not recommend it for very cold conditions below about 20 degrees. It is a little heavy and expensive, but I spend eight comfortable hours a night on it and it seems worth it.
