Comments about Sierra Designs Hurricane HP Rain Pants - Women's Petite:
I purchased these rain pants for a rafting trip through the Grand Canyon specifically because they were the only petite rain pants I could find. I am not sure they were ideal for wearing while rafting; water could still get in through the ankle holes, but they were way better then the zip off rain pants that I had used on previous rafting trip (I had no chance of staying dry in a rapid with those things). Overall, they worked well in one of the hotter months in the Grand Canyon. Since then I have been using them for backing and day hiking, and they work great! No problems getting them on and off over boots. I would recommend these to a friend.

Comments about Sierra Designs Hurricane HP Rain Pants - Women's Petite:
Under "Specs," REI says that the type of waterproofing used in these pants is a waterproof breathable laminate. (Waterproof breathable laminates are basically the best type of waterproofing out there - see REI's "How to Choose Rainwear" article: [@]However, after ordering and receiving these pants, I looked at the Sierra Designs label attached to the pants and discovered that they were NOT constructed with a laminate, but rather with a coating. As REI's rainwear article outlines, coatings and laminates are very different types of waterproofing - and in my opinion, coatings are far inferior. Thus, I was extremely disappointed to discover that these pants were falsely advertised as being constructed with a laminate when they are actually constructed with a coating! If you care about type of waterproofing, don't make the same mistake I did in trusting REI's "Specs"!...On another note, I wear a size 5.5 hiking boot and while I did not have trouble putting the pants ON over my boots, I could not get them OFF without removing my boots. The ankle zips are a nice feature but they do not quite do the trick for me!

Comments about Sierra Designs Hurricane HP Rain Pants - Women's Petite:
I bought these to take backpacking, but I also couldn't get them over my size 6 1/2 lightweight boots (even after accessing the side zips). This is pretty essential. The waist and hip area is generous but the pants get narrow around the knee. I was really disappointed because otherwise they are very well-constructed. From the previous reviews it doesn't seem like everyone has this problem so it's definitely worth giving them a try. If they work, I think they'll be great pants.

Comments about Sierra Designs Hurricane HP Rain Pants - Women's Petite:
These pants were perfect for hiking and kayaking in the wind and rain of Southeast Alaska's summer, where it rained nearly every day. Waterproof and windproof, they made a wet week enjoyable! I was able to layer underneath as needed. They were lightweight, and had zippers and velcro tabs at the ankles. There was no damage to the pants while making way through thick brush.
At half the price of some other brands, these pants were a bargain. I have no complaints.

Comments about Sierra Designs Hurricane HP Rain Pants - Women's Petite:
I was very hesitant to purchase these after reading the preceding comment, but I saw them at REI and figured I would at least try them on. I had absolutely no trouble getting a pair of medium pants over my size 8 1/2 boots, thanks to the handy ankle zippers (maybe the previous reviewer actually purchased the microlight pants, which do not have ankle zips?).
I purchased these and was oh so glad I did. After getting stuck in a torrential downpour, my $250 rain jacket did not perform well, but these pants kept my legs perfectly dry and offered great windproofing as well.
At a little under 7 ounces, you just can't beat these for ultralight backpacking, and the fact that they are 1/3 the price of a lot of other rainproof pants makes them even better!

Comments about Sierra Designs Hurricane HP Rain Pants - Women's Petite:
I purchased these for my daughter and am very dissapointed with them. Yes they are light weight and seem to work well but you cannot put them on without taking off you hiking boots. (We purchased M petite and she wears a size 6 boot). It's not a good thing when a sudden rain comes up and you have to sit on the trail to take off you boots to put on rain pants. I am returning them to the store as soon as I can. I expected better from Sierra Designs.
