Itchy and tight: a bad combination. You might say "but SmartWool's stuff isn't itchy, and this isn't cheaper!". True on both counts.

Should've known better -- negative marketing is always a bad sign. "Doesn't stink horribly like synthetics!!!" Eh, what? Synthetics don't smell (unless you set them on fire).

I use this for early morning runs, cycling, skiing and hunting (as base layer). I was concerned because of previous reviews stating that the shirt restricts movement and does not fit correctly. I am a big guy, 6-2 220, and the fit is perfect. I ordered an XL with no problems. I have worked up a good sweat and still stayed warm, but not over heated.

I am happy with the product but extremely upset that it is not clearly stated that it is made in China. Yes, REI states that it is imported. I went to the manufacturers website and it only made reference to New Zealand Merino Wool. Previous posters state that it comes from a "sustainable" company. Sending material to China to be manufactured for bottom dollar does not make the company sustainable nor is it eco-friendly!

I am keeping the shirt despite my dislike of manufacturing. But will not buy another.

Bottom line, this is a good shirt, make sure you understand where it comes from.

I was pleased with the feel of this shirt. The problem emerged once I tried it on. I'm 6'+, about 185 lbs, chest size around 43". I usually buy either a large or xl in shirts/jackets----I never really know until I try something on. This item was described by folks as having a trim fit, so I went for the xl. It was tight enough to be constraining and uncomfortable; it was a relief to take it off. Very disappointing since I loved the fabric and had gotten an amazing clearance price. This is the first time in my life I ever thought "I should have bought the xxl." I suppose there's a semi-happy ending here: my girlfriend, who's 5'8" and 135 lbs loves it "warm,soft, lightweight." Yes, I did throw it into the dryer on a delicate setting to shrink it down a bit for her. Just a word to the size-wise.

This top is so much better than any synthetic I have owned. I wear it everywhere. This company is very cool. Authentic and sustainable. I would not go back to synthetics. I am addicted and have been back to buy other pieces.

I wore this shirt for about 90 days straight before it started to hold a stink. It fits my slim build better than any baselayer I've bought, and the Icebreaker style tends to fit sort of athletic/trim.

I love that the sleeves are long enough to keep my wrists warm while commuting by bike in cold weather.

It's pretty fine wool, so it's not itchy. Considering how often I wear it, there isn't a single snag in it. This my favorite piece of clothing in the closet.

IceBreaker knows what they are doing! This shirt keeps me very warm when I need it. Sometimes too warm, but when I sweat I know the wool is still keeping my insulated and will not smell awful the next day. Its lightweight and rolls up easy to pack away. The Merino wool dries quickly too.
Once you have one you wont want anything else!
