Mesh fabric uses the evaporative cooling process—simply soak vest with cold water and it will dissipate heat as the water evaporates

We use this with our 10 year old greyhound. Over the last year, he is having trouble regulating his body temperature.

We put water on the vest and put it into the freezer. After a few minutes, it is nice and cool. The dog loves it!

My husband and I are becoming avid campers. We have two pugs. If anyone knows anything about pugs, they would/should know that that particular breed doesn't do well in heat above 85 degrees. We went camping in Feb. where the temp rose to 87/88 degrees. The cooling jackets were amazing! We just went camping again where the temp rose to 93 and the cooling jackets did an amazing job, though they did dry out a bit quicker as it was a bit warmer outside. The only down fall to having this type of breed is that once the temp rose over 88 degrees it was time to put them in the car where they could enjoy some AC. Over all, these jackets truly do keep even breeds who can not tolerate heat at all very cool and comfortable. Our male pug doesn't like being wet so of course he rolled around in the dirt and tried to get it off of himself. When I went to run it under water the dirt fell right off and it was good to go once rung out a bit and left to dry for at least 15-20 minutes. I was very impressed! Our female pug loves it and wears it proudly when it begins to become too warm for comfort :-)

I highly recommend these jackets to any/all dog owners!!

I have a 95 lb chocolate lab that overheats very easily. The past couple summers have been brutal. Combine an overweight dog that has dark fur with a bad leg and daily temps around 100 (with humidity), and my poor girl was really struggling on her daily walks. Using the vest definitely helps keep her cooler during her walks, and her recovery time is considerably faster once playtime is over.

We recently got one of these vests as our Golden boy tends to over-heat on hot/dry days, especially hiking in the high Cascades of Oregon. While the jacket stays wet, it does do a very good job of keeping our guy cool. Unfortunately, we have found on hot dry days (when he needs it the most) it tends to dry within an hour or so; and if we are hiking in a low-water area, we run through a lot of our drinking water to keep it properly hydrated. We are looking for a solution for that. Otherwise, for shorter event uses, or when one has a supply of water to rehydrate, it seems like it would be fine.

it does wash well - by hand and by machine; and I was able to pick out all of the pieces of grass, tree needles, and other things that the coat picked up during a long day of hiking. We did incur one small tear in the surface material, but that was the result of our guy 'dog sledding' down a patch of snow, and wrapping his paws around a tree to stop himself... :)

I run agility with my cattle dog mix. Last summer was extremely hot and someone suggested this vest. I broke down and bought one and it is great! It keeps her cool while in her crate and she doesn't mind wearing it. She is at the edge of the smaller size so I bought one size up so our larger brittany can also wear it. It is a little loose on her but she doesn't run in it anyway. We used it while hunting in Nebraska with the Brittany with the same results. Again, he didn't run in it, but it was great to be able to keep him cool in the kennel as we were driving over the sand dunes.

My mom bought me this cooling vest for me to wear when we go camping and hiking, but lately she's been putting it on me for our daily runs. I have dark brown fur so the direct sunlight makes me very uncomfortable in addition to the heat. The light blue vest helps reflect back the sunlight and the evaporative cooling effect really helps during our runs. We're waiting until the hottest and most humid part of the summer to see if it still works to pull heat away from my back when there's more moisture in the air.

I'm a big girl (88 lbs chocolate lab, 35" girth), but the large size is still a little big on me. My mom was afraid that the vest wouldn't stay in place when we run or go through the woods, but it seems to be doing very well so far.

PS - My mom also loves the reflective strips because I can be hard to see in the woods at twilight.

My black lab starts to overheat in temps above 65 degrees, but she's such a high energy dog, if I can't get her out for some exercise and a long walk, she's up all night--and thus, I'm up all night. I bought the vest after reading several reviews, wet it down, put it on my pup and took her for a nice walk in 90 degree weather. WOW! She was a little warm, but not any more so than on a 70 degree day and I didn't need to worry if I was going to run out of drinking water for her either. What a great product!

I was very hesitant to buy a "cooling vest" for my dog, it seemed like a gimmick to me. I quickly changed my opinion when my poor black dog could hardly withstand a tenth of our usual outdoor time in the 90 degree plus weather. I broke down and bought one at the downtown Portland location (even though it said online only, check with your store). I couldn't have spent the money more wisely, she loves it! It kept her cool and comfortable even in the 102 degree heat for about an hour before needed to be re-wet. The hotter it is, the more wet I leave the jacket.

Usually, by the end of her play time it is filthy, a quick normal cycle (extra rinse, low soap, easy spin) and it looks like new.
