The Patagonia Retro-X jacket takes both the wind and the chill out of windchill—it's a cult classic with a feminine cut.

Its windproof/breathable barrier comes sandwiched between cozy recycled polyester Synchilla® pile and a Capilene® brushed-mesh lining
Supplex® nylon panels down the sides and under the sleeves reduce bulkiness and slim the fit
Full-length zipper is backed by a stormflap
Stand-up collar protects your neck from cold breezes, and the Lycra® spandex binding at cuffs and hem seal in warmth
Zippered hand pockets are lined with a moisture-wicking brushed polyester mesh

This is a great casual jacket. Obviously well made and great quality. It's warm and the fit is just tailored enough that I can still feel put together with a great scarf.

I am a college student from upstate NY so every jacket I buy needs to be able to withstand the terribly cold winters. I had a North Face Denali fleece but it got stolen so I was looking for a new fleece to wear around campus on the days when I didn't need a huge winter jacket. I had been eyeing this jacket for a while and, after Christmas, I saw that it was on sale here! I was so excited so I bought it immediately in the purple color (which I also had been admiring). Well, I'm so happy I did because this is one of the best jackets I've ever owned! This fleece is so much warmer than my Denali, especially since this Patagonia is windproof. I got a Medium; I'm tall (5'10") so I wasn't really surprised that it was short in the torso. It's also a tad short in the arms. While being home from college, I have to walk my dog every day and this jacket keeps me so warm on even the coldest days. I would recommend this jacket to anyone!! It is so soft and cozy, too! BUY IT -- you won't regret it!

This jacket is wonderful in so many ways, but not in fit. If you are petite or have a shorter torso, you are lucky because this jacket is more apt to fit you!

For those of us who are long and lean, it's not such a great fit. I have tried this jacket on every single year since it first came out, just hoping that Patagonia would make it longer in the torso, and do away with the 'gathering' around the back hem. The front of the jacket bares my stomach and the back puckers strangely (it probably won't do this is you have a shorter torso, it just sits in the wrong place on my back). I sometimes buy XS in Patagonia, but this one would definitely be a S because it's seems pretty slim through the body also (I wear my things fairly fitted, so if you want room for even more layers you might go up yet another size).

Vouching from experience with a men's retro-x jacket (I had one before they came out with the women's version), this fleece and windproof backing is insanely warm. You'll probably get hot if you try to do anything very aerobic in it. Perfect for daily wear in cold climates, belaying, winter camping, etc.

Also be aware that this may be different than other fleeces you've tried on - it is much stiffer due to the windproof aspect. If it fits you correctly, this shouldn't be an issue.

This holds up to washing pretty darn well- my lucky sister has owned one for 5 years and though it's finally starting to show it's age a bit, it has held up incredibly well. She did mention to be careful when washing, as hers shrunk a bit.

This is a very attractive & nice fitting jacket. The side panels reduce the bulk usually associated with garments made of deep fleece.

However, the stiffness of the fleece fabric backing was a problem for me. I purchased one last winter and wore it over a long sleeved cotton shirt. I was very surprised to realize that the stiffness of the fabric back was actually irritating the inside of my upper arms! I have lots of fleece - some are windproof - and this has never happened before. Because the jacket looked so good it was hard for me to take it back, but I knew I wouldn't be able to continue to wear it.
If the fabric is the same this year, you may want to pay attention to the unusual stiffness of the fleece fabric back.

I like this jacket because it is unique. It keeps me so warm, even in Minnesota's notoriously cold weather. I use this jacket on my daily bicycle commute, around town, everywhere. The only complaint I have is that depending on the size you get, it may feel a bit short. I bought both a Medium and Small, (I have another medium Patagonia coat), and kept the Small. I found the Medium to fit well if I wanted it as a regular outer layer jacket to wear bulky sweaters underneath, however because it is so fluffy, the Small actually looked better, because I believe it's supposed to be worn closer to the body (hence the feminine cut). I think it keeps me warmer that way. It's my favorite fleece I've ever owned! (My friend and I both bought it in the same color we loved it so much). Go for it!

This is a great jacket for general cool weather wear. Its windproof and very, very durable due to its laminated backing. Sometimes fleece is flimsy and this is definitely not one of them. That being said, the laminate makes it a pretty heavy jacket. Although it is based on a style designed for technical alpine wear (hence RETRO x), this is not a technical product--there are much lighter and more compressible windproof fleeces out there. When you first get this jacket it is pretty stiff, however, after wear and washing it really does soften up. Fit is supposed to be slim according to patagonia's sizing, however, I find it to be closer to the regular fit. Although its not boxy or masculine, I wouldnt highlight its "feminine cut" cause it is cut pretty straight!
