Comments about REI Cargo Adventure Duffel:
I'm a birth doula in the Baltimore D.C. Metro area. I have quite a few items that I need to haul to client's homes, birth centers, hospitals, and back again, via car, train, and foot. I needed a way that I could carry all my accoutrement in an organized and versatile fashion. Easily, the best selling point on this is the convert to backpack hidden straps on the bottom. The wetbag on one side is a good helper as well, and the mesh keeper inside the main flap is brilliant. You can see so much innovation and good use of space without adding bulk and complication. Perfect! I can find everything easily, and I don't have to wrestle the bag around so much, it's my favorite.

Comments about REI Cargo Adventure Duffel:
REI really got it right with this little gem.
I do lots of weekend camping trips & road trips and have been looking for a nice piece of luggage that's great for throwing in the trunk, that's not too ridgid or wheeled (adds too much weight) and and has two nice/adaptable side pockets for organizing shoes, toiletry bag, underwear, etc. I also wanted a soft-sided duffle but that had a little bit of structure. THIS BAG IS ALL THAT! It may be a little more space than needed for Summer weekend trips, but there are some cinch straps. However, it's plenty roomy for Winter ski trips, to fit bulky sweaters & gear. I just can't say enough great things about this bag!! And the quality construction/zippers/materials seem so high quality that I anticipate it will last for many many years!!
The backpack straps are a great optional feature for airline travel, oversees travel/public transport, short distance backcountry/walk-in camping.

I absolutely love this bag and use it everyday! No matter what my workout is, swimming, biking, running, there is enough room for everything. I love the wet pocket which is really handy for yoga, as well as the mat straps on the front. This is my second bag, after using the first one up over many years. doesn't get any better than this, so buy it!

I have stuffed this thing full for a 2 week trip. It carried t-shirts, undergarments, pants, socks, shoes, shaving kit, and everything I needed. It must have weighed close to 60 lbs, when I was done.
It has tough, huge zippers. It has handles on both ends for moving it. It has a shoulder strap, though very hard on my shoulder with the weight. I have not used the backpack straps, but they will be useful eventually. The bag looks well made, extremely tough.
And for the price? Wow, it's one of the best things I've ever bought at REI.

Comments about REI Cargo Adventure Duffel:
I struggled to find the perfect bag to take with me on a 2-week safari -- one that would be lightweight, with no wheels, and no hard structure but would also pack things well enough they would not be a wrinkled mess. After packing and unpacking many other bags, I came across this one and it bag worked like a charm. I loved that it had two end pockets (which so many other duffels of this size do not) which allowed me to keep my muddy shoes away from the clothes. The bag made it through 4 separate international flights of checked luggage, a small prop plane and being stuffed into the backs of landrovers every other day for 10 days with no rips, tears, or damage. I was right to trust REI -- this bag was worth every penny.

I bought this bag to take to Alaska for the summer. Since I'll be doing a mix of field work on the coast, interacting with visitors, and hanging around town, I needed to bring a fairly wide range of clothing and gear with me. This bag could fit it all! I stuffed this thing, and the zippers and seams took everything I threw at them. The backpack straps are key for carrying the bag, and the handles on the ends are convenient for lifting. I like the different compartments, as it makes organization easy and I can keep my boots away from my clothes. This will be my go-to bag for any future airline or extended travel.

Comments about REI Cargo Adventure Duffel:
Size. I have bmore luggage than I care to admit and I wasn't really happy with any of it. Hardsided. Softsided. Wheeled. Ugh. I bought this duffel a year ago to replace a larger bag I was using on a month-long car camping trip. I got extremely lucky in my choice considering size and durability were my only considerations. Since that first trip, this bag has become my go-to bag. I am a minimalist packer so I find it great for 2, 3 and even 4-week trips. Most people would probably use this for trips of up to a week. It is too big for a weekend pack by anyone's standards. This bag holds a lot of stuff and compresses down to nothing for storage. Plus it is the perfect size for a carry on, so no extra $$ for checked bags!! Handles. Lightly packed, it can be comfortably carried by the single shoulder strap. Solidly packed, this bag is too heavy to carry over-the-shoulder and this is where the backpack feature comes in handy. I have used the backpack feature only once as I tend to also carry a computer daypack. The backpack feature is really only appropriate for short-term transport. The shoulder straps are padded, but if your objective is to walk a short distance carrying everything in one load, it will do. The dual handles with a padded "joiner" strap are nice. If you've really overdone it on weight, you can also carry/pull the bag by the padded end strap. I have drug this thing all over the place. Bag materials and constructon. The bag is made of heavy-duty nylon so it is light and strong. I have drug this bag over carpet, tiled floors, and even concrete and the nylon has never showed the abuse. I have kicked it along with me as I waited in lines at check-in. I tend to overpack the bag and the zippers and seams have never shown a bit of stress. Design is what makes this bag great. It has a piece of plastic covered cardboard to give the bottom some structure. This can be removed. The backpack handles are conveniently zipped away when not in use. The pockets are well thought out and appropriately sized. On car camping trips, I seldom take my bag out of the car, so the two zippered compartments on top were a godsend for stowing toiletries I needed frequently. On airline flights, they keep passports, tickets, cell phone, mp3 player, and a small paperback handy. One of the top pockets has a solid nylon backing and the other is mesh. As I'm not putting anything in the bag wet, the mesh is rather a waste and I would have preferred if it had the solid nylon backing too. But whatever. You can fit sandals or a curling iron in the outside zippered pocket along the body of the bag and hiking boots in the roomy end compartment. I'd buy another if the one I had ever wore out, but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. Great bag. Buy one.

I looked long and hard for an alternative to my EagleCreek wheeled back-pack convertasuitcase, and finally found this one. I wanted something that I could collapse and tuck away, and the EC converta has a hard shell around it. I have the impression that someone in the design department at REI wanted a duffel and set out to design one that would not stint on features to reduce cost. This is the result. They pretty much thought of everything.

as a senior citizen, I found this bag to be wonderfull. I could grip it by the end handles, use the shoulder strap, or the handles depending on the situation. I traveled to Africa with it using 3 different airlines and had 10 different flights and it came through beaufifully.
I found the pockets very convenient, especially the top one that opened into an interior pocket. Highly recommend it!

Comments about REI Cargo Adventure Duffel:
As someone who travels constantly and uses his apartment more for storage than living, this bag has been amazing. The huge capacity is great for trips of a few days in length, yet the bag isn't so bulky that it can't be used for a one or two night excursion. My favorite part is probably the shoe-specific side compartment, so they aren't floating around getting my clothes dirty. The hideaway backpack straps are great at airports or for just freeing up your hands when unpacking the car. The side straps work well for golf umbrellas or tripods, and the zip pockets on the top flap are great for storing miscellaneous items like cameras, phone chargers, Mp3 players, and even magazines or books.
Because the bag is so light for it's size, part of me was concerned that it might not have the durability I was after, but it's been over six months of weekly use and this still looks new. Theres really no complaint I have about this bag except it's maybe a hair too big for basic weekend travel, and thats a stretch.
