Comments about Mountain Hardwear Ascent Stretch Air Permeable Gaiters:

Replaced my heavier Black Diamonds with these, but returned after one use for two reasons: 1) the top strap was difficult to adjust and did not provide a good seal against deep snow and 2) the fit around the boot was loose (after multiple adjustments) and snow jammed up around ankles. I use gaiters to keep the snow off my ankles and lower leg--these failed to do so.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Ascent Stretch Air Permeable Gaiters:

This was my second pair of gaiters. The previous pair were not Mountain Hardwear. Although these were lightweight and breathable, they did not stay in place just below the knee. I had to continually stop and pull up the gaiter. I returned them and went back to my original gaiters.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Ascent Stretch Air Permeable Gaiters:

I bought these gaiters for a 2 week backpacking trip in Alaska (a NOLS trip). They fit great, are easy to get on and off, and definitely served their purpose. They saved my pants/boots from being completely wrecked through all the bushwhacking, even in the absolutely worst conditions. I didn't find them very breathable, as in when I wore them without pants on the warmer days, my legs would be drenched in sweat after a while. Also (and this is pretty minor considering all the wear and tear they took over 2 weeks) the hook in the front to attach to your laces came halfway off, and I'm not really sure how to repair that. I'll probably give it a go with some super glue. But I still would purchase these gaiters again - and will still be using them for years!

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Ascent Stretch Air Permeable Gaiters:

These Gaiters are as good as they come. I've used other brands before but there was always a con with them. MH keept it simple with this model and at a reasonable price. I spent las season ice climbing, hiking the Adirondacks and backpacking, camping in the Pa regions without any complains. They never moved up or down and my legs stayed thanks to the breathability and water proof properties of the product. I don't think you'd need a pair of more expensive ones unless you plan on climbing Everest.

            Service and delivery comments:

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Ascent Stretch Air Permeable Gaiters:

Worn over my Asolo hiking boots, I stayed dry and the pants stayed clean. At some point during my most recent trek, it had just stormed and the forest turned into a bog. Knee deep sucking mud and my pants had a few streaks of dirt in them at the end of the day. The rubber straps seem very durable. They went through gravel, rocks, boulders for 7 days non stop and look barely worn.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Ascent Stretch Air Permeable Gaiters:

My wife and I both have a pair of these gaiters. I have used mine for a little over a year now and they are in great shape still. I have used them during several winter hikes and in snow from one to a little over two feet deep. I have even sunk into deep snow over my knee and no snow has got in over the top of the gaiters. They are easy to put on and fit me well. My only one complaint is that the hook at the bottom of the gaiter that hooks into the ring on top of the boot does not stay hooked in place all the time. This has not been an issue though since no snow has got into my boot or up the inside of the gaiters. (I use these gaiters with my Sorel Timberwolf boots... that I LOVE). The gaiters add a nice amount of warmth to your lower legs and breath well. I recently used these gaiters on a hike where the trail was covered with down trees and other debris. I was climbing on, over, and around large tree trunks and broken branches etc. and the gaiters held up perfectly. I inspected them when I got home and found no damage. These are well worth the money.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Ascent Stretch Air Permeable Gaiters:

Another response to the toe strap comments. Maybe I am confused, but there is not a "toe strap" on these gaiters. There is a strap that passes under the arch which is a very rugged urethane covered strap. There is a hook that attaches underneath your shoe lace at the front of the shoe. And finally there is a "strap" that adjusts the circumference around the upper calf just below the knee.

Also there is a burly velcro closure that extends down the front of the gaiter.

I have to disagree that the "calf strap" does not adjust small enough. It is in fact highly adjustable and as noted in another review, once adjusted, it stays in place - it really never loosens - it passes back like a harness. However, when your calves swell you are able to make fairly quick adjustments on the fly.

These are fairly water resistant and breathable due to the permeable back panel. I think they are extremely rugged - had my for 3 years and have put about 500 miles of trail/bushwhacking on them.

These provide really good footwear coverage also, come down real low at the heel and sides. NEVER have an issue with garbage gettin' in my shoes.

The only downside I see is that I broke an arch strap and I don't know if I can get a replacement. It broke because I was stupid - changed hiking footwear and didn't tighten up the strap - was bushwhacking and the strap got tangle on a piece of dead fall. Almost did a face plant (hehe)- lesson learned.

BUT, there was enough strap left that I could still use the gaiter just fine.

Really good gaiter. Oh BTW, the "short" ankle gaiter that MH has is garbage, don't waste your time with it.

This is a great product. My fiance and I climbed to the top of telescope peak in Death valley through 3 feet of snow in March and despite repeatedly landing in the snow up to my mid thigh I never got snow in my shoes thanks to the gators. I would buy these again and my fiance is now buying them as his didn't work out.
