Comments about Yakima Mako Aero Kayak Saddles - Pair:
I bought these to roof mount a 22" wide hard chine sea kayak. These saddles are clearly made for wider boats. To order to chinch the boat down, I have to jam both saddles together. Even then, they are too wide if you wish to use the strap guides on the saddles, which now just strike me as a sales feature (gimmick).
The felt pads help with sliding the boat into position, but the kayak will also slide when strapped down; good thing for those bow/stern straps.
Otherwise the saddles are fine, but if you got a fat recreational plastic kayak, do you really need something this fancy?
In hindsight, the simply foam block approached worked better for me in terms of stability and COST!

Comments about Yakima Mako Aero Kayak Saddles - Pair:
I recently made a 1300 mile trip from Carlsbad, NM to Moab, UT and back. I carried my kayak using a pair of Mako Saddles and Hully Rollers. Whether driving 75 mph into a 20 - 30 mph wind on Westbound I40 or doing 70 with a strong side wind on US 285, the kayak never budged. I could look through the sunroof see how stable it was. Great product.
