Comments about Camp Time Roll-A-Cot - Wide:

This cot was purchased to be a smaller lighter weight version than my truck camp cot. I am using this for a horse/mule pack in elk hunt and wanted something light yet farther off the ground than the 6" versions from other vendors. It accomplished all my goals of ~10lbs or less, off the ground and even has the bonus feature of having some storage included.

          Service and delivery comments:

As alsways the service and speed of delivery from REI is a cut above any other place I visit. Thank you.

Comments about Camp Time Roll-A-Cot - Wide:

With the addition of a pad, this is very comfortable. However, even though the assembly instructions are very clear and sensible, it was very difficult to actually assemble. I think this is because it is so hard to keep the parts aligned at one end while putting another end together.

Comments about Camp Time Roll-A-Cot - Wide:

I initially purchased the 28" cot and was quite disappointed in it. I exchanged it for the wider model and am a lot happier with it.

The main problem with the 28" cot is that the side rails push the sides of your mattress upward. The 34" cot solves this problem. A mattress 26" wide or less should lie flat between the rails of the 34" cot.

My other criticism of this cot is the wingnut tensioners. They are small, sharp, and difficult to turn.

Those drawbacks aside, I found this cot quite comfortable when combined with a good mattress. I used an inflatable mattress by Exped, 26" wide. I'm very picky about my bed comfort, and have some serious joint problems. I really don't think a camping bed could get more comfortable than the Roll-a-Cot plus a good mattress.

With practice it takes about 5 minutes to set up this cot. It's very easy to roll up and slip back into the bag. When rolled up the size is reasonably small even for a compact car, especially considering the amount of comfort you get.

Choose the width carefully. The 28" cot will only give you about 24" of actual sleeping space, due to the fact that the rails are inevitably higher than the sleep surface.

I slept on one of these cots for 7 nights in the Grand Canyon on a raft trip. They were easy to set up and tear down, sturdy, and cool in the heat.

Comments about Camp Time Roll-A-Cot - Wide:

The cot sags a lot. The wing nuts do not expand enough to take up the sag stretch in the materials. I had to get extra padding for the center so I could sleep without discomfort. Still the cot will provide a portable bed when evacuating for a hurricane.

Comments about Camp Time Roll-A-Cot - Wide:

I have used this a few times now and thought I should throw my thoughts about this product up on the web. I took this cot an a hunting trip in the NE Utah mountains and it performed very well. I paired it up with the REI 3.5 Self Inflating Camp Bed since it was winter and I wanted the thermal protection from underneath. The temperature was in the teens overnight with icicles forming inside our tent, and in the forty degree range in the days. My hunting partner and I took turns using the 'new cot', and both of us slept VERY well, and thought it was a great addition to the hunting camp. It was firm enough and wide enough to be comfortable. I am 6'2" and weight 235 lbs, so I chose the XL cot to make sure, and I think it was the best choice for me. Also, I have used this while visiting family without the sleeping pad, and loved it. I think the mesh type material will breath well in the summer, but I have yet to take it out since I bought it this last fall. By the look of the material, it should hold up well, and the size is not hugs when you consider the function. It is too heavy for backpacking, and is best suited for car camping or something similar. I plan on buying one every year for my hunting camp until I have one for everyone.

Comments about Camp Time Roll-A-Cot - Wide:

Would I recommend? With one caution: my own deciding criterion for this purchase was the mis-advertised 15" or 18" height for this elderly duffer. Am considering returning it, but, once the rather poor instructions were worked through, set-up seemed easy and cot looks like a good thing.
