          Comments about Platypus Hoser 3.0L Reservoir - 100 fl. oz.:

          I have the my platypus for a few years now and it has been with me on 20 or more multi day backpacking trips in the sierras. The main thing I am impressed with is its durability. I can set the bag on granite, pine needles and many other surfaces that you would imagine causing leaks but it has withstood all the abuse. The bite valve does not leak while hiking. Make sure to keep the valve in a safe place while driving to your trailhead (if another pack is leaning on the valve it may cause it to leak water). I use this in combination with the msr hyperflow filter and gravity kit. The small opening fits the filter perfectly. This bag also allows me to back flush the filter. To keep the bladder clean, I will rinse with warm soapy water and hang it to dry. If mine ever springs a leak, I would not hesitate to purchase again.

              Comments about Platypus Hoser 3.0L Reservoir - 100 fl. oz.:

              I have used this on multiple occasions, mostly for day hikes, though I will also use it for multi-day trips in the future. I bought this because it was the simplest, most "genericly shaped" 3L reservoir, as well as cheap.

              Like most of the other reviewers, I like the size, lack of plastic taste, the hang loop, etc. The cap is also the same size as a 2L soda bottle, if you want a cap, you don't have to buy the brand-name caps for this bag--just get a 2L bottle of soda from the store and use that cap. =)

              Although these do not prevent the product from functioning well, I might like to see some changes in the cap and bag shape. The cap could be bigger, since the narrow cap is a little difficult to fill without getting water all over the outside. The narrow opening also makes it a little difficult to dry. It takes me about a month to dry this out and usually I end up using it again before it gets completely dry.

              As for the shape, at least in my day pack, the length is right, but when full, it creates a large lump inside my bag. It's a bit annoying to pack other things into my bag with that lump there. There is space on either side of my pack's spot for hydration packs, so a wider bag would hold the same amount of water but not protrude into the backpack's main cavity as much.

              I would also add another loop near the opening so the bag is easier to hold while filling.

              Anyway, it's still a good hydration bag.

              Comments about Platypus Hoser 3.0L Reservoir - 100 fl. oz.:

              Bought this to replace my Camelback.... Which still worked, but I couldn't see how clean it was. So, I love that it is see-through. I love that I don't have to re-thread the hose through my back pack every time, and it is very easy to connect the hose. Three big cons: the opening is too narrow to allow you to get your arm in to clean it, or to empty a tray of ice cubes in; and the easy click mechanism to the hose.... How can you possibly clean that? The water won't flow through it. I even tried pressing the mechanism as if attaching the hose - no go. Finally, the hose... I can't get it disconnected at both ends to run the Platypus cleaning brush that I bought with it! Two minor cons: the flow rate on the platypus is much slower than the Camelback; and it's a bit long to fill in the kitchen sink. If they made it shorter and wider (and wider opening) that would fix most of what is wrong with it. Still leaves cleaning the hose and connector as a problem though. I would recommend to a friend with reservations... Still better overall, than the Camelback, simply because I can see through it.

                I think I'll be returning this. I haven't used it yet, but have filled it and put it in my pack. It just takes up too much precious pack space. I wish I could find a bladder that was less round and flatter so it stretched across the width of the pack rather than making a big cicular bulge in the middle of the pack.

                Comments about Platypus Hoser 3.0L Reservoir - 100 fl. oz.:

                Some reviews have called this "ultralight" backpacking gear but a true "ultralight" backpacker would be carrying a 1L plastic water bottle. As in the thin walled bottled water kind that costs $2 with water. You can't beat a 1L bottle for light and cheap!

                I call this "light" backpacker gear and for that it is perfect. My old Camelback was 8oz weight this is 4oz. And cheaper to boot!

                Pros:
                * Lightweight
                * Durable. Nice sturdy material.
                * Seems an easy substitute for a Camelback bladder in terms of size/configuration. Fits my Camelback "Mule" small pack as well as my Osprey Exos 58 pack.
                * Bite valve doesn't leak even when partially compressed

                Cons:
                * The fill opening is VERY small. Can't fit Nuun or Camelback brand electrolyte tablets without breaking them up. Also difficult to attach a water pump - short of a surgical hose style.
                * Can't fit most ice cubes in the opening. And if you can you're there a long time poking them in. Con for me as I like to add ice on a hot mountain bike ride.
                * The screw on hose configuration is prone to leaking if you don't crank it down right
                * Bite valve sometimes takes some "rolling" between your teeth to get good flow
                * In a humid environment I imagine drying this out wihtout mold forming would be difficult. Many suggest sticking this in freezer for storage which is a great ideas. I live in Colorado (dry). I puff the Platypus up and hang on a hook and it dries just fine.

                Overall this is a great product if you're looking to reduce weight with some minor invonvenience.

                If weight weren't a concern I'd stick with my Camelback bladder. The larger opening is simply too practical.

                I recommend to friends who want to reduce weight on their pack and don't mind some inconvenience.

                  It is great because of the price, and it made of durable materials.
                  I don't like how difficult it is to clean. Because of this, I will pay a bit more and get the one with the zip top.

                    Comments about Platypus Hoser 3.0L Reservoir - 100 fl. oz.:

                    My setup for years of backpacking was a CamelBak Antidote 3L reservoir for the hydration bladder in the bag. I would also bring the Platypus Platy bottle 2.1L rolled up and then use once at camp for filter water. I hated filling the camelbak and trying to squeeze water out of the bite valve or pour out of the large opening. Camelbak finally took on a leak that was not repairable (I had patched several other holes prior). So I went with the Hoser 3L and could not be more happy. Standing applause to the makers of this product. It's very tough (Im hard on gear as I use it quit often), lightweight, compact, easy to use, and inexpensive. I can now use this bladder as two peices of gear: the hydration bladder while on the trail, then unscrew the hose and leave it in the bag and use at camp as water storage. I bring just one cap with me and have saved nearly 4oz. (thats alot for an ultralighter)from my other set-up.

                    Bottom line, if you need a peice of gear that will last, is cheaper than competitors, and can eaisly be used for multiple purposes then this one is for you.
