Comments about Sea to Summit Ultra Sil Compression Sack:

I have the 20 liter size. I roll my Thermarest up very small, pack my 20 degree sleeping bag around and on top of it and compress the whole thing down. This way, sleeping bag and pad take up the same amount of room as just the bag did in its original stuff sack. I don't have to compress very tightly to do this but a seam ripped after around ten uses. I like the sac otherwise, as it is very light and water resistant; however, I think it is rather expensive considering its lack of durability. The sack is still useable even with the tear, albeit less water resistant, so I still use it. It is even possible that I might buy the same one again despite its faults.

You would think a compression sack would be constructed with compression in mind.

I would recommend this to a friend for "gentle" use.

Comments about Sea to Summit Ultra Sil Compression Sack:

I have a small for a 32 degree down bag and a XL for a 15 synthetic. Both compress the bags as small as possible. I use a Flash 50 pack and water bladder so this hedges against rain or bladder leaks while giving me more space in the 50L bag. Whatever few ounces these way are made up by having more pack space and thus less need for a bigger and heavier bag. I've beaten mine up good and sat on them and they are solid. I also use these as a pillow when backpacking; fill with clothes and then pull a fleece pillow case over it. Keeps any odors out and saves more weight.

Comments about Sea to Summit Ultra Sil Compression Sack:

Bought this compression sack and used with my North Face Casaval(regular)bag before a two day section hike of the AT. All went well until the second day the sack tore at the seem while compressing my bag. I had heard Sea To Summit gear was of good quality will have to look into other brands possibly for a better quality compression sack.

Comments about Sea to Summit Ultra Sil Compression Sack:

The little square pattern is not rip-stop nylon. Had a rip (my fault) and a hole (not my fault) from my second trip with it.

The rip keeps expanding, due to lack of rip-stop. Expensive and light, good for gentle handling.

Comments about Sea to Summit Ultra Sil Compression Sack:

I can't believe I paid [$] for a stuff sack, but it works. Sizing is tough to figure out. The Medium size just fits a -15 degree down sleeping bag but not quite big enough for a -20 down/gore tex bag (old North Face Plover).Material is thin (hence light weight) but that is what I was looking for. Material is also slick, per description, for making sliding into pack easier. If the price were lower, it would be 5 stars.

Comments about Sea to Summit Ultra Sil Compression Sack:

I have two of these, an XL and a Small. The small crushes my 30 degree down sleeping bag to about the size of a large cantaloupe with EASE. The straps and the cap that goes over the opening are what does it so well. These are ultra lightweight From 2.0 oz (XS) to 3.8 oz (XL). Don't know how they could even make a lighter compression bag. Not too sure how well they repel water but gauranteed better than some stock compression sacks which are usually bad quality. These are high quality sacks for sure but gave four stars because I can't attest for long term durability but they seem like they will last a long long time.

Comments about Sea to Summit Ultra Sil Compression Sack:

Very light, but tore the very first trip. I take care of my gear, and this did not stack up. If you're using it for something that is either too small for the bad, or compresses to a size too small for the bag it is okay. If you use it as a real compression sack buy something else. It is too thin to withstand the pressures. The weight is not worth the seam failures.
