Comments about REI Campware Mini Spatula:
Perfect.....
Just be sure to read the actual size of this product. I wont need any bigger but just dont go expecting to flip pan cakes with it.

Comments about REI Campware Mini Spatula:
This spatula is great for backpacking because of the size and weight. When they say "mini" they are not kidding! This is the same size as a spoon, and the head is about the same size as a spoon head. This works fine if you are stir-frying or scrambling something, but it might not work as well if you are trying to make an omelette or large pancakes. If you need something bigger the MSR fold-able spatula might work better.

Comments about REI Campware Mini Spatula:
Outstanding multiuse item. Actual measured weight was 0.35oz/10g. The flat working end has a textured finish, presumable to grip food better. There are three inclined notches near the top of the handle which allow it to be rested on the rim of a vessel without sliding in. No small thing when cooking in the dirt: spoon rests are hard to come by in the wild. However I wouldn't rest it for long on the edge of a HOT pan because, although it's purportedly heat resistant, it's made with so little material I bet it would melt rather quickly.
A large spatula is less than worthless with a small pan. This works very well with my 7" cook kit. It also works well as a spreader and a mixing utensil. As a mixer its small size scrapes along the sides of small bowls well, allowing mixtures to be folded in evenly. It's handy when mincing food, particularly sticky garlic, to clean the bits off the knifeblade without using fingers.
I can use this to beat eggs for an omelette, work the omelette in the pan and then get an even spread of crème fraîche on the finished dish. The front edge is finely tapered and almost sharp so it slides under food well without tearing, can be used as a chisel edge to cut through moderately tough food, and makes a fair pot scraper with some leverage from the handle. Use a nail file to restore the edge if it blunts through melting. Can be paired with a spoon/spork for a makeshift pair of serving tongs. Would be a good tool for smoothing down repair tape on an air mattress, tent, etc. In a dire emergency it might make a decent bicycle tire lever.
Well worth it's small price and weight.

Comments about REI Campware Mini Spatula:
I thought this would be a great addition to our bicycle touring cooking gear since it is so small and lightweight. Imagine my surprise when on the second time of using (to make an omelette) the leading edge of the spatula MELTED !!! Not only is this product not durable but it is probably not safe to use with food, and what other use could it possibly have? I would never buy this again nor would I advise anyone else to get or use it.

Comments about REI Campware Mini Spatula:
this is a great little spatula. I laughed at it's size when I first got it but I have to say I'm laughing now because it's GREAT! perfect for my teenie mess kit and flips my 4 inch pancakes GREAT!! stiff enough to pick stuff up that is reasonably heavy yet pliable to get into the smallest mess kits (and we know those can be SMALL!) the only thing I would change would be to make the handle a little fatter so it'd be more easy to maneuver around the pan.

Comments about REI Campware Mini Spatula:
At only 0.3 oz (not 3.2 oz per REI specs) this utensil is an excellent design if you are willing to bend your ultralight backpacking standards just a smidge and cook pancakes or such. The design is successful because of the just stiff enough shovel combined with a flexible handle. Apparently it is made of nylon 6/6 heat resistant 200C, yet as with any ultralight gear, thoughtful use is best. To save weight the shovel is narrow, so a little practice makes perfect.

Comments about REI Campware Mini Spatula:
I use this with my snow peak mini cook set for backpacking and it does the job! No wieght to it, easy to clean, can't get more compact. It is nice to have something that actually fits into the small fry pan etc. For such a small item, low price, you simply will be glad you purchased it. For an extra ounce of weight, well worth it!!!

Comments about REI Campware Mini Spatula:
We took this spatula on a recent backpacking trip to the rockies at our camp at 10,600 ft. After cooking just the first pancake, it melted. I couldn't believe it. I've made pancakes for years on a small backpacking stove and have never seen this. Luckily, I had brought am older plastic spatula/knife combo that I've used for eating and used it to turn the remaining pancakes over.
